32 people, thats terrible, that really is.

Is this the worst shooting like this ever as well, Columbine was 16 or so wasn't it?

And yesterday I read an article in a magazine that comes with the Sunday times about how violent films are etc, I thought then if another school shooting happens, they will blame it on this sort of thing. Now i wonder if they will?

They already have and tried to relate this to prior shooting where people used grand theft auto and counterstrike. This was at 3pm when i turned on the tv.

No way,I don't buy it.Millions watch, play and see the same things these people do without going off the deep end.I've enjoyed violent games like GTA,but in real life,I can barely bring myself to kill a bug.Explain that.
I believe it is like someone said earlier, which was the original purpose of my post in the first place.I think it has to be the pressure, and chaos of the times we live in.It's like we're all spinning out of control faster and faster as each year goes by.Just my opinion.

First of all what is there to enjoy with a violent game? What is there to enjoy with violent at all? Perhaps that is a discussion on itself already. It has already been proven that because of all the violence that is shown on tv, games, internet etc our society has become much harder and more violent. If only 1% of the millions you mention would commit a crime like this .........

It IS the pressure, and chaos of the current times we have created ourselves. We are not getting out of control because we are already and always have been. There have always been crazy people. It only happens more because of the tools and the examples we get presented every day. That is what makes it so easy! It's everywhere on tv and now it's waiting till the next one.

I'm going to have to agree with rai76.

TV and Video games don't kill people. People kill people.
I love to play games and watch movies. All kinds. I havn't yet picked up a gun with the intent of killing a bunch of people. There has always be violence and will always be. With or without video games and TV.

You can pick and choose all you like. You can take several random acts throughout the history of the united states and use them as an example to say "You need more gun laws." But what about the genocide in Dafrur. Do you think TV violence and videogames attributed to those acts of rape and pillaging? I'd say we're doing pretty good to only have 1 out of 298,444,215 go on a shooting spree every few years. 450,000 have been killed so far in Darfur. A country where guns were not readily available. When a warlord got ahold of a lot of weapons a mass genocide breaks out. That couldn't happen in America because 48% of households own guns. I don't think the genocide in Darfur could have happened if 48% of the people owned guns. The genocide would have been stopped by the everyday villagers as soon as it started. After all, do you want to go to war with every village you enter. Before long you would no longer have an army. In 1982 a town by the name of Kennesaw passed a law that required every household in the town to own a firearm. The residential burglary rate in Kennesaw fell immediately -- almost 90 percent in the months directly following the law's enactment. That drop far outpaced the more modest 10.4 percent drop in the entire state of Georgia during the same period.

whats sad is that these students who were shot and killed today were out of state students who havent seen their parents and family for a few months.

About the gun laws. what works for the UK doesn't necessarily mean it will work for the US. We have a much larger land mass and a substantially larger population that you would have to control. We have the second amendment on our side. Im for rights to bear arms. This is a tragic event, but you cant take one event and extrapolate it out as if it were common play. If we bend over and let them take our RIGHT to bear arms then what will stop us from bending over and letting our government, who should stand up for our rights, from taking away other rights of ours? Im shocked by some of you ppl who are for a gun ban, especially on a site like this that seems to be against government control over our individual rights. And as has been said, you wont stop the criminals from getting these weapons, only law abiding citizens looking for a means for protecting themselves and their familys.

oh come on whatare you goin to base this on! I mean i can accept wild claims but you have no bases to make these assumptions. There are also 100's of things this NWO could do to make good press for Bush or divert it from him.

You've got to be joking right. Now i understand that there have been some real conspiracies that this government has been involved in but I HIGHLY doubt a school shooting is part of the 'NWO agenda' and to say that it is, instead of offering condolences to the families is just unthoughtful at best.

When I went to class it was on the news that only 1 person was shot, then when i get back its over 30..This is just crazy I pray for the families and the survivors/victims and the shooter

I am so sad to hear the news about the killings...I live in mexico and here its tought to get a gun,,believe or not...whe have problems of narcotraffic, but going to buy a gun by any common guy it's hard..you have to deal with forms, military and so on. There in the USA i dont know how easy you can get a gun (with the gov authorization)..but looks to me you dont need much less than some identification of been older and maybe security number and that's it, one common thing too is that if you can see only or most of the schools killings are on the USA, you dont hear that much on the rest of the world shools, that means something really wrong are with your people. I think your gov need tougher laws on firearms..i know hunting is a real sport in the usa, heck my dad hunts here in mexico, but gething an arm so easy makes more easier to guys who their mentality are on the wrong path to get a gun and do this kinnd of things.

You should get some other laws rhat maybe do some psychological exam first if you pass it then do some other forms and wait a tkime to get a gun. Not just show your identification..the money and way you go out with your new flashing dirty harry gun.

I pray for the families of the people over there and God be with you...hope God gives confort to the families.

It is just a small version of problem-reaction-solution so the masses of the nation can can bath in apathy and look up to their god-like president!!

I found an interesting article on the Asia Times web site dated monday(today) called -The Nightmare Bush Dreads Most-It seems that the peaceful demonstration they had in Iraq on April 9th there was every tribe from around marching and wanting peace and they want the Americans to leave infact today they are putting down their arms... Bush don't want this and if he allows students to come into the US I bet you this is why he well show them and hit their children to give a warning... He dosen't want anyone to know that the Iraq government is kicking out the Americans. Because why is it that everytime something happens that you do see on TV once you start looking into the real new you seem to find a reson for the distraction........

OMG everytime Grand theft auto, ive played them all, ive played CS and lots of OTT violent games like manhunt and not once have i thought of killing someone based on what ive seen on movies, tv and games.

Jack the ripper and Vlad the impaler play a lot of CS did they, weak excuse that doesnt wash, lets try a different angle, how about pressurised by parents into doing things at Uni they dont want to do and generally having a crap life, maybe raped as a child and he just snapped, maybe he killed someone and couldnt get rid of the guilt so went nuts, or how about just plain mentally ill.
I personally think his tart left him for a cocky arrogant jock type and little quiet 'nerdy' asian guy went crazy and much like columbine showed them that sometimes you can kick a dog when he is down but when you look the other way he's gonna bite your ass. I DONT condone the actions, this is just my guess at the story.
GTA is one of the biggest selling game series and by their excuse there is millions of mass murderers just ready to snap any day now, btw CSS & GTA are so old now and yet they seem to think this guy just got a copy and suddenly thought 'duh is that what im supposed to do in real life'

You have voted ImpliedChaos for the Way Above Top Secret award. You have used all of your votes for this month.

Agreed. Today is not the day of conspiracy thinking, we shall look through the evidence tomorrow and discuss potential theories. Today is for the victims.

I would be HIGHLY surprised if America now doesn't adopt tougher gun laws.

In the United Kingdom, in 2005/2006 50 people were killed by gun violence. It fell from a third, 78 to 50.

Because disturbed people can't get guns.

We will never allow police state gun laws to ever be passed. This is a free land, and we will never go the way Britian and much of the Socialist world went.

We have moved away from gun control and are keeping this thread about the news.

And it's sad you've jumped in here chanting police state and ignored the deaths of those killed today

I don't think so, it depends if this is linked to like terrorism or something.

Which I highly doubt it.

Haven't had a chance to get back on since I posted this earlier today. As the day progressed, it got worse and worse.

When I originally posted, as you probably read, things were confusing at best. I understood at the time that the shooter had been apprehended, only to hear later on that he had been still shooting people as they posted the story.

I feel so much sadness for the friends and family who have been dealt this awful hand.
