Just released information on how the US plans to fight the scourge that is known as MAD COW disease.
The following steps are to be taken immediately:
No longer allowing the slaughter of 'downer' cattle and thus their exclusion from the consumption chain,
and these other measures from the article:
A ban from the food supply of small intestines and head and spinal tissue from cows 30 months old or older.
Changes in slaughterhouse techniques to prevent meat from being accidentally contaminated with brain, spinal cord or other nervous system tissue.
A prohibition on the slaughter of tested animals until results come back. The Washington cow was slaughtered almost two weeks before tests showed it
had BSE.

So is this enough? Will BSE be conquered or only delayed?
Personally I think that all animal byproducts should be banned from the feed of cattle and any other animals known primarily as vegetarian immediately
and completely.
Any guesses on the likelihood of annother encounter with the disease of BSE?
