Generic host error

Last night, i had to restart my computer using the button, a cold shutdown, beacuse of a freak lightning storm that decided to say "Hay why dont I hit your house k thnx bia" So, i logon today, and it loads up to a point, then it says Generic Win32 host problem, or something like that and I have no sound, what is going on ~_~, its their a way to fix this?

ps. Ive downloaded all the microsoft patches and fixes, still hasn't worked. Im running AVG, with all the updates, picked up nothing.
