In many conspiracies there are claims like "elites", "higher order" etc..I was thinking that these concepts may invented to hide the real contradictions in the society. I mean, we are blaming a dark, higher order, and we think this is a very secret truth. In this sense one may feel a catharsis and feel him/herself very weak against those higher orders and secret plans. As a result one may think: "no matter if I do something or not, because they are all mighty". In this sense, many conspiracy theories are just a tool in order to feel comfortable.
Am I making sense or should I clear more?

I wouldn't call this phenomenon another "conspiracy," it's more like a coping mechanism.

Take 9/11 for example. For some people, it's much more easy to believe that there must have been some all-powerful cabal out there including the government who carried that off, rather than a few terrorists with minimal expertise and financing. Actually believing in the former actually makes many feel safer.
