Microsoft recently announced messenger live will be availble on the 360 from May 7th. It will be a free update via the dashboard update in May. The messenger will be able to talk to messenger users on the PC as well. Link.

well it should be the same as the pc version, on that link i provided it shows it being used in conjunction with the keyboard attachment for the controller

i think you can sure your controller or keyboard for it but it is probably easier to type with your keyboard that using a controller
