Do you actually get anything for winning a debate?

No, there is nothing "extra" for winning. However, prizes have varied for those who have competed. So far, all members who have competed have been awarded the same. In some situations, the "winner" may be given a little something extra, but for the most part, both participants receive a little something.

OK, Semper. Let's do this thing. We've discussed this a little bit earlier. U2U me with your list again, 'cause I accidently deleated it. Oooopsie .

First off, I'd like to congratulate my recent opponent Semperfortis.
He won fair and square. He and I have both served, and he still serves to protect us all. An Officer of the law. Something I just plain and simple don't have the cajones to do. Trust me, he is no pig. I might have different ideals, but if the s@*t hit the fan I would have his back - no questions. Then I would debate his butt when things cooled down.

Semper - stay cool Dude. I only call my friends Dude. I formally throw out a challenge to you. You beat me this time, but I want to find a subject where we are both so passionate and opposing, that way I can even the score.

I'm sure at some point we will see an ATS wide Debate Tournament which are a lot of fun. The Head-2-Head Ring is something that members can use as a stomping ground to get some much needed experience. I've made it my job to assure that members are judged for who won the debate, but both competitors will receive some constructive criticism to how they can improve themselves in their next debate.

Between myself and the judges, we are working hard to better our members and harness their debating skills.

If you are reading this and are unsure whether or not you are "up to par", put your skepticism aside. Lace up the mitts and throw down! Win or lose, you will walk away with some experience and some feedback on what you did right and what you did wrong.

If anyone has any suggestions on how else we can benefit this process, feel free to contact me via u2u.

This is your guys forum, and it is your debate. We do it when you want to do it and how you want to do it. I'm merely here to author the threads and work with our staff of judges to guide everyone along the way.

So far, I've been extremely impressed and I am getting a lot of great feedback from our judges.

I am totally in for that. I am so psyched for a tournament. I so far have had a great and positive experience with the debate here so I would so throw down in a debate tournament.

Having fighter status is cool and all but it doesn't do any good unless you can back up your title with a good clean fight now and again.

semperfortis I was with the brotherhood here in the Detroit area for over 7 years. I loved every moment of my service and had some of the best urban combat training on and off the job. lol!

Most of the officers I had the pleasure of riding with were ex-military and the Marines were always making more felon arrest than others, for some unknown reason.

Talk about loving to dredge up the scum, but again it was always a thrill ride with a 10 on the pucker factor scale.

Hey all. Looks like I'm a lil late at finding this forum. Well, since I'm here now, I'll throw in my gauntlets with what I'm most interested in debating.

I'm all up for political discussions of just about any nature. Just ask me about something, and I'll let ya know if I feel up for it.

The NWO, particularly it's existence, those involved, and the influence on the lives of each individual. I'm a staunch believer that the NWO currently exists, so I'd find it kind of hard to focus on a con view with this one. Also, if this gets debated, I'd like to see the subject matter, as well as the evidence presented get used in a research project. It would be great to introduce all ATS members to two of the more interesting, yet least traveled forums on the site.

Also, I'm interested in anything paranormal related. If anyone wants to pitch something at me, I'll let you know what I think about it, and we'll go from there.

Looking forward to a good ole fashioned scream fest to get the old heart a'pumpin!!

I've debated semper before. He's quite adept at holding his own in a discussion. I'm glad that I've gotten the opportunity to chat with him. He has a unique outlook on things, and that's why we can agree on so much. We just like to bicker, which is one of the reasons I came here, .

No takers?? I'm kind of depressed. Maybe the debate season's in it's downtime, cause I'm not seeing a great deal of new debates being posted. True, it's a new feature, but everyone must have seen it. Well, here's a bump for in case someone missed it.

I would like to do another debate but i cant do it for a couple more weeks b/c i have finals...i also dont know what i want to debate about...sooo I guess i'll be back once i get my stuff 2gether

I wish more people would get involved.

I'd still love to debate something with someone, but as I have no experience formally debating anything, I am at a loss as to what subject to choose to entice an opponent.

The others here who have sought an opponent on subjects such as Iraq or Iran-I am just afraid are too knowledgeable and passionate about such subjects and wouldn't respect me as a worthy opponent but as a waste of time. I don't mind being less experienced, mind you, but it would be better to debate, even an experienced debater on a subject we were both pretty much equally ignorant on.

I want to get schooled, but on debating, not necessarily a particular subject. Man, am I making sense?

Let me ask of the experienced debaters... have you always felt passsionate or been well educated ahead of time on your debate subjects? Or have you ever had no real passion nor information but had to research a topic presented to you, then form an opinion, and debate from that?

Seems like we'd have more debates here if Chissler or the judges came up with subjects and assigned them to two people to go H2H on-even choosing who would be pro and con. I'm sure they could pair up those equally experienced-but even if not, as someone with no experience, like I've said, I'd debate with someone with even much experience, purely to give it a try, and learn what my strengths and weeknesses are.

I've already learned much from the debates I've read here. I want to learn more-I want to get my feet wet.

I feel like there should be a master list of subjects. I mean i really on like debating bout topic that i am passionate about. But Its hard for me to just come of the top of my head, a topic that i am both passionate about and able to prove my opinion. Does that make sense??? But anyways I think we should really consider making a thread that has nothing but DEBATE TOPICS... I think this would aid the process.
