No it doesnt mention freemasonery in the movie, but some people say there is symbols etc.

Actually when I saw it first I didnt know much about mason, I more thought it was some secret society/satanic like the one in "Ninth Gate".

But when they talked about it I linked it to the movie.

Every lodge in NY has a bar in it.
As soon as I get to my lodge, the first thing I always do is go grab a beer.
(we always meet up and hang out for 45 minutes or so before we go upstairs and open the lodge so most of us just relax and have a beer or two...I guess these guys are just aching to be away from their wives hahahahaha).

Come to NY Steve, we'll hang out and do some ritual and then relax with some good beer.

From my understanding of the movie it was an independant club for the super wealthy.. it had no ties to any actual existing club or society. It was probably meant to show the other side of the wealthy society, which I would not say it impossible for them to throw such a party, rich people do some messed up stuff. But I dont see it connected to a real group.

People say its Masonic because 1. They dont understand whats going on 2. Any ritualistic showing must be Masonic in nature.

Essentially lack of information and they make a rash conclusion that is utterly false.

*sigh* ... The Bible Thumpers out number the Catholics, and as such we cannot touch beer.. and its an expellable offense to bring it on Masonic ground. At our yearly communication where we have a debate on it every year.. one guy said "Well in my parish we serve beer at ALL of our events, festivals, dinners, fish frys, do you consider this immoral??" .... to which to section of the hall filled with Baptist resolutely shouted yes, it was immoral, yes every Catholic was immoral, and Jesus didn't like them. Because they drank beer.

WE cannot even let other people bring booze onto Masonic grounds.. like say, weddings, private events, reunions..... even with no Mason there.

Oh well. I will have to go to New York, you can show me around and I will take you up on your offer of rituals and beer.

Rock, make sure on your visit to New York you stop by in New Jersey as well. We can attend a Table Lodge, nothing but food and drinking and a very entertaining and fun ritual.

Just try to make sure that you have tasty viddles that are appropriate for a vegetarian/vegan diet.
If not, then just make sure that you have lots of dark beer!

Wu, it is several courses and I am sure we can get you salad for all of them!!!! Even dessert. The dark beer is on me....as long as its Guiness or Sam Adams.

As for the beer... if your buying the Guinness (which I just so happen to of just opened one!) I will defently be there.

Everyone else's lodge makes Ohio lodges seem like... crypts.

Actually bro, I'm allergic to chocolate so keep it far away from me (then again, I'm allergic to just about freakin' everything).
But you could smother the salad in peanut butter and strawberry syrup, that'll be just fine.

Sounds like a plan. We will back up the produce truck for Wu while Rock and I get ourselves a Guinness IV drip and attempt to lucidly discuss the more esoteric aspects of Masonry.

We'll just have to get you north of the border to sample Neustadt Springs Brewery's 10W30 if it's a dark beer you like. Or Old Credit Pilsener if you prefer something lighter.

Fitz, is this the only viscousity it comes in? I may need something more along the lines of gear oil......

Have you petitioned your local masonic lodge for membership, or is that perhaps an ambition of yours? I say go for it, you certainly seem to be of a positive predisposition towards freemasonry. While I don't know the differences between US and Canadian Freemasonry,

Why should I become a Freemason?

I have spoken, some months ago, with a fellow from Ex-Masons for Christ -- who gives very good (and convincing) arguments against joining. I am devoutly Christian, and I am told by many that Christianity and Freemasonry are not compatible. If they are, how? The one thing that has kept me thus far from joining the fraternity is just that -- the unknowing if my faith and Freemasonry are compatible.

As I have received one side of the argument, I now seek the other.

I guess what I really want is something a bit deeper than the fliers, less... general, less... impersonal, less... formal.

However, I am looking for both sides of the issue.

I was brought up Christian, and nothing i've read has shown me there is anything that should contradict with also being a MAson. Did this fellow telll you anything in particular, or does his group have a site?

There are no incompatibilities with Christianity and masonry. I am a Christian, devoutly so (no universalism here), and I have yet to find anything that makes the two incongruent. The only Christian who is going to have a problem are those who are so zealous that they are incapable of ignoring religious differences and feel they must always talk about them - because no, everyone else in the lodge will not be Christian.

Christians who are against masonry, especially ex-masons, are usually people for whom masonry became a religion. I do not doubt that any hobby we have - masonry and otherwise - can become like a religion if it consumes us. I have no doubt that some masons treat it like a religion, but it is not a religion and any mason who remembers their obligations knows that.

The only time I had a religious problem with Masonry was going through the Scottish Rite, never in the blue lodge. Some of the rituals seemed vaguely religious to me, some overtly so, but after doing the research on their origins and meaning I realized I was wrong in my interpretation.

Also, I would probably point out that ATS is not a good side to get the "pro" freemason side. This is a conspiracy site. It is probably better to get your questions answered at a masonic forum. You can find them pretty easily through google. Here, your going to have to be very careful in sifting through anti-masonic propaganda, which sadly makes up the majority of the SS forum.
