Family Converts Dead Dad into Diamond

Topic started on 29-3-2007 @ 07:10 AM by JacKatMtn

This seemed an appropriate place for this 10 carat story. Will this become the "new designer trend", " Oh, on this ring is my Aunt Millie, she was a gem", "and on this one was Gramma Pearl, isn't she beautiful?"

Family Converts Dead Dad into Diamond

A Blackpool family has created a "fitting memorial" to deceased dad Mick Egan - by converting him into a synthetic diamond, the BBC reports.

Egan died last year of a brain haemorrhage and his wife Susan decided on a novel way of preserving his memory. A US company extracted carbon from Egan's ashes, heated it to create graphite and then compressed the result to create a rough diamond which was then cut to the family's specifications.

I personnaly think this is a great idea for remembering a loved one. I quite fancy having my ashes shot in to the sky in a firework!

Personally I liked what Steve Tyler of Aerosmith was reputed to have said...something about having his ashes dispersed on a beach so he could get into as many women's knickers as possible

I already told my husband that I want to be a diamond after I die, I think is a very memorable and very beautiful way to be remember by.

I will no be able to do that with my husband if he goes first because he already has a written statement that he is to be bury at Arlington.

I personaly think its a nice idea, well unless you are a little clumsy and lose it,

But really... i think that its a sweet idea, Anything that makes us feel close or that we wont forget the person is a good thing,

I personal have ashes of family ..and there stuck in my wardrobe, to have them made in to a ring would be far nicer, than stuck under my tops,

Sounds morbid i know, lol, But any idea is worth thinking about,

See i would not mind being turned in to a shoe, But thats another story.....

Here's one place that does it ~ LifeGem. There's another in California, but I can't remember the name of it. I looked it up after seeing this idea in an episode of HBO's Six Feet Under.

I wish I'd known about it in 2002. I would have had my father done.

There's also a Smirnoff Vodka advert in which a guy has his brothers ashes converted into a diamond, then pawns it for a load of money Im not sure that'd be very convenient though seeing as it would probably cost more to convert the ashes to diamond than it would to actually sell it

Me? I want my ashes to be scattered over the hallowed turf of my beloved Chelsea FC

I wanted to do this for my two very close and beloved family members that suddenly died this year, but alas when death comes swiftly, and you have not made prearranged plans the currents are too swift to hunt down and make these types of arrangements at the time, people push you when you are at your most vulnerable to quickly dispose of the body in traditional ways. So if this sounds like a good idea to you, make the arrangements now don't wait. You can also name a star after them! Cool.

Are you really a diamond diamond, or more like a Wal-Mart, Joan Rivers Collection cubic zurconium diamond?

Peace

I was surprised to see this thread. Ever since I saw this done on Family Plots, I have told my husband I wanted my ashes made into two diamonds, one for each of my children. It does not seem any more morbid than letting a human body rot in a seven thousand dollar coffin.
