Looks like Adobe will be releasing a new version of Photoshop in the next few months called CS3 though you can upgrade right now to the beta release if you have a registered version of cs2.

This new version has a much sleeker interface and a few new/improved tricks.

Here is the interface:

CS3 will have editable non destructive filters so if you blur an image it can always be removed from the image just like deleting a layer....the image reverts back to the original...or you can go back to say a blur filter that you applied and change the intensity or whatever.

New vanishing point feature:

Auto Align Layers:

New Enhancing Brightness & Contrast:

Here is my fav...the New Quick Select tool:

lol bud....

That tool will save so much time. As it is now with cs2 I use the pen tool, that can be fairly time consuming depending on the image.

90% of the image editing I do is just selecting objects from an image and erasing the background. Seeing it done so easily was amazing. Not $1000 amazing, but still.

Any chance of there being a drastically reduced price to upgrade from CS2?

Otherwise I'll stick with the CS2.

Would'nt want to have to mortgage my family.

edit = duh!

I missed it in your first post (upgrade to CS3 beta)

Omg. I'm so getting this on Limewire, haha.

I currently have Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8 & Adobe Photoshop 7.0 which are sufficient as of now.

I absolutely love the quick select tool. It's amazing!!

The only problem is, I'm a complete dunce when using programs like this. I don't even understand how to use the earlier, simpler versions of PSP or PS, much less this...

Someone who has it, tell me if it's brain-hurtingly complicated.

If CS2 is anything to judge by, yes CS3 will be fairly complicated. I have only just begun scratching the surface with what CS2 is capable of, and I have had this for about a year now.

I'm downloading the CS3 beta right now. With my sloooow dialup connection, it should be finished downloading by Christmas.

Actually the progress bar is telling me 7 hrs or so.

Stay tuned...

w00t! Only about 35 minutes to go with my download.

If my Internet connection craps out before then, I'll throw a fit!

Almost, about 10% to go..

well, last night my CS3 Beta just gave me a message that the evaluation period expired, and refused to let me use it.
So it seems the evaluation period for the beta version is 21 days, for anyone else interested. (I didn't see the evaluation time limit listed anywhere when I downloaded it)

But I won't be making the upgrade to CS3 soon. In time, perhaps.

The most difference I noticed with CS3 compared to CS2 is that CS3 loads much faster to begin with. I think that it is probably that CS3 doesnt load all of your fonts at program startup, but rather when you need them.

I hadn't really had much chance to explore if there were any other groundbreaking changes with this version, but all in all I liked it, and would recommend it to anyone with a serious interest - - and of course an unlimited supply of cash$$$
