International experts have backed the use of male circumcision in the prevention of HIV.
The World Health Organization and UNAIDS said circumcision should be added to current interventions to reduce the spread of HIV.

Three African trials have shown that circumcision halved the rate of HIV infection in heterosexual men.

The recommendations largely apply to countries where rates of heterosexual transmission is high.

Modelling studies have shown that if male circumcision was more widely available, millions of lives, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa would be saved.

WHO and UNAIDS said access to the procedure should be urgently scaled up in areas with high rates of heterosexual infection and low rates of male circumcision.

But warned that it was an additional intervention and would not replace programmes providing HIV testing, treatment for sexually infected infections and condoms.

guess there is some mediacl logic in Jewish and muslim circumcision
on serious note if this is true then it would pottentialy save the lives of millions accross the world

this whole circumcision thing is just another in a long line of crocks of crap in the HIV = AIDS project. Just like giving AZT to African is a crock of crap.

AZT is known to be deadly and isn't used in the states anymore as monotherapy because of its toxicity, yet they insist on giving AZT and Nevirapine, another highly cytotoxic chemical as monotherapies in African countries to HIV positives. That should be a crime against humanity. It is no different then chemical warfare or biological warfare.

Circumcision is recommended to fight HIV

This wont work, and in fact will make things worse. If they implement this plan, the men who get circumcised, will then think it is safe to have unprotected sex which will lead to an increased rate of infection. Education is the key not circumcision. The benefits of circumcision in preventing HIV infection is minor when there is minimal hygiene. Another foolish WHO plan that will backfire.

it's recommended, fine...nothing wrong with that.

Just because it halves the chances of catching it doesn't mean much, it's all about safe sex and proper sex-ed.... try working on that first before telling every guy they need to be circumcised.
