Truth, old bean, the BIBLE does not have any injunctions against sex with children.

Nary a one. In fact, many times in the Old Testament, Jehovah ordered the Israelites to lay waste the cities except for the young virgin women (5-12 years old... it was not uncommon to marry at 13 in those days) and to take the virgins home as their property/sex toys/prizes.

The Old Testament (and the New) have quite a few negative verses about women (how women are unclean during their menses and it's a sin/pollution to a man to sleep with them or even be around them at such a time... etc... etc... etc.)

The Bible has plenty of verses demonstrating cruelties -- to ignore them and pretend like the Koran is the only place that has such things makes for a very poor argument on your part..

these were all primitive people...
they had no laws written against it in their holy scriptures because it was so widely accepted by society at that time...

Because that is the history behind Israel's conquering of the caanites. It is one of the few reasons I think the Israelis or Jews (though I tend to try to not lump them both together, even though they share their religion and "holy land") but I feel they deserve what they get. Also on the other hand, let bygones be bygones, because the Jews haven't been that cruel for millenia and the Israelis have a just reason to do to the palistinians what they are doing, the violence over there has to stop, and you can't compromise with so much blood shed, and Israel is the best of two evils. The other must go.

it was the 12 sons of jacob (origin of the 12 tribes of israel mentioned in the book of revelation) that killed the canaanites...
they killed them because one of the canaanites had raped their sister Dinah... so the brothers tricked them into getting circumcised (they promised the canaanites that they could be like them now, because they are clean). So now they were weak, allowing the brothers to march into Canaan and slaughter everyone.

The tale of what happened to the Midinites is in Numbers, chapter 31. You'll notice that Moses says that they are to kill non-virgin women and males of all ages ... but the virgins (the little girls) may be kept for themselves.

And men in Biblical times had more than one wife and it was not unusual for them to have sex with the other females in the household (see the tale of Abraham and Sarah.)

That's not very kindly treatment of women, you know... capturing and enslaving them when young and forcing them into bed.

...and then there's the bits about if your wife displeases you and you find out she wasn't a virgin, you can drag her outside to her father's house and have the rest of the village stone her to death. (deuteronomy 22:13)

Multiple wives were also sanctioned by Jehovah. However, if you try polygamy I think you'll run into some legal issues (on top of trying to find more than one woman who will agree to live in a polygamous situation.)

Very few religious groups in those times were very kind to women... or to people who didn't belong to the same race/religion/tribe.
