Strange Licence Plate seen !! What is it please ??

Topic started on 27-3-2007 @ 02:58 PM by Alpha Grey

In the last year I have seen a strange front-mounted licence plate on various vehicles at times in my area (Central Mass) and was wondering what thet hell they either stand for or mean.

Here is the plate I have seen...I made this pic with Paint Shop Pro for you to see what the plate looks like..it is NOT an actual pic of one of the plates.

Any ideas anyone ?? The cars I see with these plates do not appear to be Gov vehicles...and as of today I have spotted about 10 cars with these plates at various places within the state....anyone know what they are ??

It could be the old version of this line of products used to distinguish the owner as a police officer.

The newer ones are a lighter background for greater visibility.

Actually, using Masqua's link as a reference, the thin blue line across a black field would be a display of mourning for a fallen officer. Police officers wear the black band with a thin blue line for funerals of their comrades. The thin blue line on a white field is the normal configuration.

AG your question has been answered already...guess you don't subscribe to the Worcester T&G because they did an expose on the abuse of these plates and decals, about a year ago!

You can read all you want on the forums at MassCops.com. Do a search for TBL or "thin blue line".

FWIW...I've been in municipal law enforcement for about seven years and can tell you from experience that only about 0.01% of people who put those on their vehicles are actually police officers. Read about it on MassCops if you want to see what real cops think of the whackers who put those on their vehicles!

masqua is dead on the money correct on this one. It used to be that they would check for PBA stickers to tell another officer, but they varied some from state to state, and they were getting too publicly well known. Non-law enforcement officers were getting them from friends on the force or taking them off someone else’s car. It was also getting hard for an officer to get one even from a BPA rep as the reps were constantly being asked for them. So this double black bar with a blue strip is their new little “I’m a LOE” indicator.

Yep,my dad was a Dallas cop for 20 some odd years and I remember many days when he would come home with black electrical tape across his badge
It was always sad, especially if I had met the fallen cop and one of my dads poker games or fishing trips
