Now that the hostages are free, is the U.S. still open to attack Iran? Only time will tell.

This report continues the rumored attack :
Report: U.S. Planning April Iran Attack
Kuwait's As-Siyasa newspaper claimed Wednesday the United States is planning a missile attack on Iran later this month.
Citing unnamed sources, the newspaper said no ground troops would be involved in the air-launched attack, which it said President George Bush would
justify by citing Iran's alleged complicity in fueling conflicts in Iraq, Somalia, Yemen, Lebanon and Afghanistan.
This is a report on a 45 day extenion for 1000 25th Inf Div troops currently in Iraq:
Analysis: Iraq deployment extensions
WASHINGTON, April 4 (UPI) -- The Pentagon announced Monday about 1,000 troops with the 25th Infantry Division will have their current deployment in
Iraq extended by 45 days.
It also announced two units that will return to Iraq in 2007 with less than a year of rest and reset time since their last Iraq deployment.
The 4th ID will return to Iraq just nine months after it returned from its 2005-2006 deployment.
Not saying they are related just wanted to post them ASAP fro your information..

They have not fully handed over the hostages yet, just announced that they will release them. Am I right?

You are correct. I was just thinking that since they're supposed to be leaving tomorrow or so, that could still leave the 6th open for business.

Here's a Russian OP/ED discussing US/Iran, APR6, possible scenarios etc.
I think this is the same source who leaked the sneak attack plan, anyway here it is...
Who will bite first, the U.S. or Iran?
MOSCOW. (RIA Novosti political commentator Pyotr Goncharov) - The world is waiting for April 6, when the United States supposedly plans to launch
Operation Bite against Iran.
Washington has accumulated the required forces in the region: two task groups in the Persian Gulf, including the aircraft carriers USS Dwight
Eisenhower and USS John Stennis, four nuclear submarines, two dozen cruisers, and more than 400 sea- and ground-based aircraft, including Stealth
planes that will allegedly carry out the greater part of the task.
The approved targets are the Natanz uranium enrichment facility, the Isfahan nuclear research center, the Araq heavy-water plant, the Bushehr nuclear
power plant, air force and naval bases, air defense centers, and command and control headquarters.

Tomorrow huh? Maybe that's why Iran waited til now to release the Brits with all the happy pics of them hanging out with Ahmadinejad. I almost want
to go there and be captured, get some comfy clothes, some food, get to hang out with the president, etc. It was all a show of course, but we sure
would look like a-holes if we attacked them now, touché Ahmadinejad.

I'd be very suprised to see an attack tomorrow. Not only has Iran made themselves out to look like the good guy with the release of the prisioners,
but the U.S. has no good reason to initiate a war with Iran. The American people won't support it, Congress won't support it, and the House won't
support it. If this does happen (tomorrow or in the near future), the U.S. is in for a hard road ahead. I don't think we'll get nearly the support
we received in Iraq which was of course limited.. I guess time will tell, but I wouldn't place any bets its going to happen tomorrow.

Another Russian report denying the other russian sourced article :
Rumblings In Russia Of U.S. Strike On Iran
A Russian official denied Russian media rumors that the United States planned airstrikes on Iran's nuclear facilities Friday.
"Our contacts with the U.S. side give no grounds for such expectations," Alexander Losyukov, a deputy foreign minister, told RIA Novosti.
RIA Novosti said the United State has not ruled out a military response to Iran's refusal to halt the enrichment of uranium for its nuclear program.
These Russian sources reminded me of these Mad Magazine characters:
Look out!!

Iran says it is prepared for Operation "bite", the sneak attack happening tomorrow between 4AM-4PM... shhhhhh....
Iran ready to defend itself from possible U.S. attack - speaker
ISLAMABAD, April 5 (RIA Novosti) - Iran is prepared to defend itself should the United States attack it, the speaker of Iran's parliament said
Thursday.
The last few days have seen reports in Russian and foreign media that the U.S. has scheduled an operation, codenamed Bite, against Iran for 4:00 a.m.
local time April 6. The operation, should it materialize, would deliver air strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities over a 12-hour period.
"The Iranian people are ready and determined to protect their land and to repel any enemy attack," Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel said at a press conference
during his visit to Pakistan.
Seems pretty unlikely but I want to post up all the articles I find, to put them in this one thread for posterity.

well the 'secret' attack has already failed big time, they have just discussed the issue in the Iranian "parliament"
Thankyou tinpoint Russian independant news outlet, you've ruined the fireworks display.
If it does happen, and I think its possible in will happen later this month, you can bet that Blair will want British units taking part. I'm certain
we have sub's in the area, but we have no carriers anywhere near the ME.
The Nimitz is on its way but that will take its time sailing across the other side of the globe. Maybe the Nimitz is a decoy, the Iranians may think
the attack will only happen with the all important 3 or 4 carriers (remember the Challes de Gaulle is joining in with the wargames in the area)

We dont need 3 carrier groups to attack any country. Besides, every one seems to forget we have air bases in lots of surrounding countries and we have
the USS kitty hawk in japan.
With 600 plus attack air craft with in 30 min flight time not to mention the thousands of missiles ready to launch, an attack can be waged in a matter
of seconds any where in the world.
