I think you all need to see this. I'll need some time to do some homework, but I will have more to say on this later.

I think there are some great points made here..

There is something very fishy going on. HMS Cornwall is a state of the art ship with a radar tracking system that would have seen the Iranian boats as they left port. Why did the captain of HMS Cornwall not go to cut off the Iranians?. Why did the gemini boats not fight or at least run away when they saw the six boats coming?. No Royal Navy captain would send its people out without protection! Either the captain is an incompetent fool OR he was ordered to stand by and do nothing!' -- Beryl Hutchinson, Larnaca, Cyprus

The waters were too shallow for the warship. As to why they didn't warn them, I can't answer.

The Iranians were there waiting for them to disembark. Fighting them was suicide and we would now be at war. If they came out and were faced with warships, their crew pointing heavy guns at them, any resistance and trying to make a break for it would have been bad. Any "Death Before dishonor" talk is WAY beyond stupid.

The helo escorted them onto the merchant vessel and returned to the HMS Cornwall. It returned 90 minutes later when communications were lost. I'm not sure how many navies would leave a helicopter not used for much combat above a harmless civilian ship in friendly waters.
