I always have a faint hissing, high pitched sound in my head. It seems perfectly normal. HOWEVER, sometimes it gets ALLOT louder, and the weird thing
is, is some people can hear it get louder the same time as you.
There is definately another explaination for this other than tinnitus. What? I do not know.
I am 15 and I doubt I've had anything damaging to my ears. Just allot of jets flying past. Some people sayit's from a ELF base in Victoria,
Australia. Well, let me say to them, that they are incorrect. I have this nearly everywhere.

I can hear electricity... but i never thought much of it because i thought everyone could. Any TV or computer screen drives me nuts, including the one
i'm looking at now. They buzz really loudly.
The network box at my university gives me hell too, and it is 2 rooms away from the room i am always in.
Some days i'll get a ringing come on that doesn't seem to have a cause, and they are always followed by one of those involuntary shivers from that
feeling going up your spine.
Is all that just me? Or do other people get it too? (I haven't read the whole thread, just the name and OP)

I haven't read the whole thread, so I'm not sure if this has been said before, but discontinue the use of aspirin and any other salicylate based
drug (Pepto-Bismol is one) if you use any of them and see if it improves. These have definitely been linked to tinnitus (ringing in the ears).
Of course, if you're taking aspirin because of a heart condition, consult your doctor before doing that.

That may be transistor whine. It often comes from electronics when they're on, particularly Nvidia video cards.

Well, it certainly seems that this is not related to where a person lives! I too have a constant ringing in my head (not ears) which gets louder and
softer without any rhyme or reason that I can figure. I have had no head injuries of any sort but used to work in a nightclub so it could be the loud
noise that caused damage. However, I have (as do some of the previous posters) very sensitive hearing. I cannot hear things when there is a lot of
background noise unless I "hone in" on a particular sound but my hearing in general is a lot better than most people I know. I can also hear the
electrical sounds made by TVs, PCs, microwaves, etc but this is noise is minimal compared to the general overall noise that's in my head all the
time. Stress makes it much much worse to the point that I tend to squint at people and cup my hand behind my ear to hear them when I'm really
stressed as the noise in my head is much louder than someone speaking to me. Doctors say tinnitus.

I do hear pitches, though it's extremely rare (as rare as my extreme headaches).
But when I hear a pitch, I can localize it, so basically if I hear a pitch tone I actually hear it coming from ''a specific place'', rather than
just hear it as if it were all around me.
Do you have THIS, or does it just sound like its everywhere?

Just wanted to add something from a previous post. Someone else mentioned that they have above normal hearing. Interesting story. I was in the naval
nuclear power program and worked in the engine room of a Trident sub. We had our hearing checked annually and I can remember having my hearing tested
in mobile trailer with a few other guys from the boat. They sat us next to each other and told us to raise our hand when we heard the tone. Well, the
tones started going off and I kept raising my hand. I looked at the other fellas and noticed that I was the only one raising my hand all the time.
They would occasionally raise theirs, but I must have looked like Horshack from "Welcome Back Kotter"!
After the exam we all had a seat to await the results. The examiner came out and gave everyone their file and earplugs, telling them to wear
them...yada, yada, yada. He had my file and told me that they wanted to run more tests on me. So I thought perhaps I blew the test because I kept
raising my hand while the others weren't. I asked the examiner if my hearing was going. He looked at me rather surprised and told me that it was
quite the opposite. He indicated that I was hearing in frequencies that I shouldn't be hearing in. I told him that some of the higher "tones" were
more of a vibration than a sound and he looked quite stunned. Anyway, I had another test that confirmed the first. They told me that my hearing should
be getting worse working around the machinery in the engine room. However, my hearing was improving.
Don't really know why. I had tubed in both of my ears twice when I was a kid and had lots of problems with earaches. I wonder if this is the reason I
hear "tones" from time to time.

OP, I understand what you mean. You can tune it out when other sounds are around, yet when it is dead silent you hear it, you feel it in the bas of
your skull. It is a high pitched tone, you can almost feel in the back of your throat. I have had that since forever. It almost sounds almost like an
HDD with the head hitting the disk. It's annoying but I can usually tune it out. Right now, as I am at work, I hear the HDD in the computers around
me whirring and making all sorts of high pitched noises. It gets annoying, but at least it drowns out the ring in my head.

I have posted before on this in someone else's thread in regards to ringing in my left ear. I have had it now for about 7 years. It goes up and
down. Also I noticed it has caused tone deafness in my left ear. I have notice that when I get acupuncture it really seems to help, but at $50 a
session these guys want you to keep coming back for ongoing treatment. I don't believe with acupuncture it is a permanent fix.
I have also heard people using QiGong to completely cure the ringing in there ears, but I have yet to try it.
As for the Ear Doctors, what a bunch of useless individuals. I have been at least 10 specialists, $7000 US and they have found nothing physical, so
give me come theories and they call it tinnitus. Whatever!
I can get all the theories I want at ATS for free.

Please no one get me wrong here, not saying It more severe for me - when you mention ringing (any where but this fantastic site!!) it turns into a
competition.
So far this has been a seriously cool and reassuring exchange of experiences, gonna take time to consider everything and relate it to me personally
(prob gonna start with iron supplements)

Ding dong? U never watched carry on Doctor? (If your in US don't expect our world class sense of humer to have quite the same effect, I don't
understand my own SOH yet and I don't pretent to try)
As far as schizophrenia, hope not, I was trying to verbalise a weird feeling, I hope I have a good grasp on reality - but maybe that’s for others to
decide - good idea for another thread that.

Hi, it sounds like tinitus but im not sure what causes it. Or.. Some people have really sensitive hearing and im sure you, like myself can probably
hear the high pitched noise that TVs emit. It drives me mad sometimes because if the tv is on low it distracts me from what i am watching. You can
also hear it when you walk close by someones house! The fact that you have had perfect results from hearing tests suggest that you are highly
sensitive to all frequencies and maybe the noise that wakes you up is not in your head but electrical equipment in your room.
It may sound ridiculous but try unplugging everything in your room before you go to sleep and see if you can still here it. Im no hearing expert but i
have sensitive hearing to low/high frequencies so thought i would share my experiences!

Only all my life.
Lately I have been trying to use the 90% part of my brain, that we are not able to use??? The results are that I can shut it off like turning off a
light. I am not sure why it works, but it does.
There are times I have battles with the noise, the tones change and seem to pop back up. If I go into a state of being awake but in a day dream like
semi trance, the noise goes away, but then I start to see streaming video clips of things from the past or even future.
Since being at ATS, I have come to understand this brain activity as being Non-Government Approved Remote Viewing. My security level is not high
enough to get what the Government knows about this phenomena, but they use it every day.
