KC-135 entered USAF service in 1957, last one delivered in 65, so in reality they are even older.

and on a related theme, the C-135 based E-8 is also going to have to soldier on into its dotage thanks to the scrapping of the 767 based E-10 last week.

Yeah, I'm actually AT Scott AFB, IL...and they are developing those new tankers here...

The Air Force is "buck-wild" about replacing its aging tanker fleet...

The most gorgeous one I have seen is a 767-variant...its gorgeous! (coming from an Army-guy)

So maybe the USAF's priority right now is replacing aging equipment...

Besides, the F-117 was crazy-out-of-date...it carried 2...count em' 2..2K laser guided weapons? Ehhhh...

F/A-22....much much much much much better...stealthier too...AND the ability to CRUISE above Mach 1 without afterburners...NICE.

It was just time to go...peace out Nighthawk!
