Hey zorg, you happen to have a link on the jpl website to that image? I'd love to link them to it in an email, and ask them just what the heck that
is, and why it looks like water with muddy tracks, when Mars is supposed to be a desert planet.

Regardless, if there were creatures, I would expect to see them use the rocks to provide camoflauge opportunity. That is what my Earthly point of
reference says, anyway. That only makes sense if they need to use the camouflage.
On Earth, camouflage is only used by some creatures, because they need to escape from their predators or because they are the predators.
I do not remember any case where the hunter and its prey use similar camouflages, so, in this case, there should be different looking creatures on
Mars that would be the hunters of those that use the camouflage or another type of different looking creatures that would be the prey of those that
look like rocks.

Hi, just wanted to log in and say thank you, I love these types of threads.
To me the most interesting pic is the 6th one from the beginning of the post, (sorry don't know how to post pics yet), it looks just like a lizard on
a rock sunning itself.
Think of one of those Golapogos Island lizards on a rock, I can even see three distinct toes curling over the top of the rock that match it's color
and not the color of the rock.
Is this the one you're talking about? Here it is, 'solarized'. Notice the difference of texture below the 'critter' and the rest of the rock.
All living things move, if we can see it move then there's Life! If it doesn't move at all then it could be a rock,,, Or my Ex Wife.
Check out this thread if you have the time. You'll find pics of a 'moving duck' and a movie of a critter that seems to be shaking!
Cheers!

Do you understand the nature of this topic? The idea is that there are images that we didn't ever get, and the ones we did get were supposed to be
sterilized. If there were creatures that could be described as anything other than rock, do you think we would have them floating around the public
domain?
Accidents like that DO happen, but not that often.

I do.
But as you said:
Why would all life not have evolved to look more like the rocks that litter the landscape in that area?
I was only pointing that, as far as I know, there is not a case where all life has evolved to look the same.

ok, in light of a misstatement of words, i shall now change my statement of "all" as it relates to the sentence about "all life having evolved to
look like rocks" to the word "some", "most", "a (significant) portion", or any other word that would show that there was a portion not meeting
the true level of the word "all".
I will not bother to change the above posting in which this statement emanated from, so as to not confuse future readers who are unlucky enough to
have bothered to read this particular post.
On a similar note, ArMap...we are talking about things here that may or may not exist. Please don't be so literal. I would rather not have to
scrutinize each word, as I am not intending my words to be sworn into law. It is much easier, and much more amenable to open communication to leave
unsplit hairs alone.

You are portuguese? live there, hail from there, grew up there?
Always was interesting in that land, as well as Spain. last home of the Neandertals. How did these two countries end up with such different
languages (that sound so similar) and so much power over history?

Yes, born in Lisbon, allways lived here, first in Lisbon, now on the other
side of the river, in Almada.

I think some still live here, you should see one
of my neighbours.

The languages
are not that different, any Portuguese can understand Spanish and any Spanish can understand Portuguese, if they want to (that is the difficult
part).
PS: sorry for the off-topic, but for most people on ATS I am an alien critter.

Oh yes I am quite sure of it... and the reason you search for anomlies is that you hope someone will find in which crater you parked your spaceship
and you forgot where you parked!

Anathema wants us to write letters too.. I will have time next week to start a campaign. I have been sorting names and phone numbers and trying to
figure out who best to bother...
A lot of people say they want to write, but how many are serious? I could start a petition but no one here wants to use their real name

All I was really concerned about was that someone had a reputable source for the image. If we can get an expert to look at it, that'd be great.
Anxious to hear what their opinion is on it.
