First science from the Large Binocular Telescope

The $120 million LBT is located atop Mount Graham, a 10,700-foot mountain in southeastern Arizona. The team of observers used the LBT’s “left-side” primary mirror and its “blue” camera to capture a detailed image of the afterglow of the gamma ray burst.

It appears they have not used it's Stereoscopic vision as of yet and I still can't wait to see that shot, but this looks like a good first outing for this incredible ground based telescope.

Here is the site detailing more information on this telescope.

Is it true that (LBT) is better than the Hubble?

I believe that a lot of the new ground based telescopes can out do Hubble now. I know the VLT can. And just quickly reading up on the LBT. It says, when fully operational, it will be the worlds highest resolution telescope and it will be ten times sharper than Hubble. I'm not sure when it will be fully operational, but I can't wait to see what kinds of images it produces.

I don't think orbital and ground-based telescopes are really comparable. Although ground telescopes have had higher resolutions than Hubble for a while, the fact is that the atmosphere attenuates light (more in some wavelengths than in others) and scatters unwanted light from the sun, which means that the Hubble can see darker objects.

This telescope has something that hubble doesn't have. Stereoscopic vision!
