Gen. Pace Calls Homosexuality

news.yahoo.com

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said Monday he considers homosexuality to be immoral and the military should not condone it by allowing gay soldiers to serve openly, the Chicago Tribune reported.

"I do not believe the United States is well served by a policy that says it is OK to be immoral in any way," Pace told the newspaper in a wide-ranging interview.

A 2005 government audit showed some 10,000 troops, including more than 50 specialists in Arabic, have been discharged.

As sad as it is, this does not surprise me.

Do we really want such people running our military, who are
going to discriminate against good soldiers, simply because
of there sexual preference.

What are your thoughts and/or Opinions on this?

The answer is, quite simply, yes.

I have no problem with homosexuality in the military, but I do have a problem with rapists and torturers parading as men & women in uniform and given a licence to assault and kill innocent men, women and children in a country they have occupied and are systematically destroying.

The actions of some of the military in Iraq is a best suspect and I find that immoral.

Just as a point of interest - Ancient Greek and Roman military men were often homosexual.

Genera Pace needs to step into the 21 first century and away from the medieval Inquisition and persecution of other human beings for been different.

A person in his position that say this type of comment is openly calling for persecutions in the military of homosexuals.

His job is with the military affairs not with the personal preferences of the people that serve in the military.

A personal opinion is just that personal.

I suspect the good general was having trouble containing his own feelings toward those young, shapely soldiers.

What a putz. Whose morality does he bide by? Is war moral? Following his logic, and I'm assuming he's a 'God Warrior', the entire military should be discharged. There is this little commandment that says thou shall not kill. It doesn't make any exceptions.

For his sake, I sure hope he doesn't end up on the wrong side of the enemies guns, with only a gay soldier capable of saving his ass. That soldier may just flame his/herself the other way.

Again, what a putz.

If this general thinks the US shouldn't have any immoral policy, he should be advocating for the pullout of troops from Iraq, the repeal of the patriot act, the closure of guantanamo, and countless other examples of actions that are a lot worse.

I don't see what difference a person's sexual orientation makes in the military. Regardless of your opinion on homosexual issues, I think we can agree that a gay man or woman is going to get the job done just as well as a straight one.

The general is entitled to his personal beliefs, but he had to know that publicly stating such an opinion was going to reflect very poorly on him, especially when there are so many issues with actual importance out there right now. I don't care if the American army is 0%, 1%, 10%, 50%, or 100% gay. I'm far more interested in, for example, are they helping the Iraqi people? And this general should be concerned about that kind of thing, not what gender his soldiers are attracted to.

I would like to chime in on this topic.
The subject of those who are homosexual in the military is a very hot topic. Now I will put forth what I do know and believe.
Do I believe that there should be homosexuals in the military, yes, as they too have skills that are valuable to the military. Should they be out, no. As much as we would like to think that the country is moving in the direction of acceptance, the problem is such changes take time. If forced it will have a very bad consequences on those who seek equality. I am however in favor of the don't ask, don't tell policy, as it was a step in the correct direction as it would have allowed those who were homosexual or had those tendancies to serve. I do know that in the past those who were, have served in the US military till it was determined that they were no longer needed and kicked out. Point in case the seargent who was drafted during the Vietnam conflict, went in told them he was a homosexual, made to join and then 20 years later kicked out, as he decided to make a career of the military.
On the defense of the General, his statement is correct if you think of the military in these terms. The military personnel represent all walks of life from around the country. Be it as distasteful as it may seem, those military personnel, also have a diverse background, to include the ideas of the majority of the country. And if a person, who was a homosexual were to come out, it could mean that he gets injured by friendly fire.
Makes you think what do you want a fighting force, a bit discriminating, or a force where you are not sure, or even going back to the 1940's where you have 2 armies, one white and one black or in this case one straight military and one that is gay.

I don't think that a persons sexuality should be that big of a deal for them to have to proclaim it from the rooftops, then again if they have to go out of their way to hide it because of the danger of 'friendly fire' then there's something deeply lacking in the calibre of the men and women who would resort to such actions in the first place. What would the General think is more immoral in this case, what you choose to do with your todger or taking a life in the most pointless, malicious manner possible.

Yes! This is exactly the kind of man we need in running the military. I applaud him for his candor. If we are going to let homos in the military, shouldn’t we also let polygamists and child molesters serve? When I was in the Air Force, it was against the code of conduct for a husband and wife to engage in oral or anal sex. Of course, if you don’t go around telling people nobody will know otherwise. If I, a straight woman loving all American red blooded male, can’t perform certain sex acts with my girl, why should gays? Besides, nature made the penis such that it will fit in the vagina. Two penises or two vaginas do not serve the intended purpose…procreation.

So what other exemptions should this two penis/two vagina clause be applied to?

Hey up how about being banned from paying tax, that'd suit me down to the ground.

Good thing it isn't immoral to torture, rape, and kill people...

edit: heh, I see other's have already been there.

This guy, and probably most people in 'command' (anyone who is a boss of sorts), are never capable of letting people be people. They want to conform and shape people into what they think is correct for humanity. And then they break their own rules. typical...

Agreed. The UCMJ is crystal clear regarding illegal and deviant sexual behavior, both heterosexual and homosexual.

The general was simply stating his personal feelings. What I suspect is that the vast majority of activie duty military also personnel feel the same way. At least they did when I served.

General Pace stated that he is only wanting the Don't ask, Don't tell.

Heaven forbid a General speak out against gays

and resistancia, provide some evidence to back up your claim of greeks and roman homosexuals in the military.

Even if you dont believe in God, Homosexual sex, especially in men, poses serious health risks. Can be in women as well if they have anal sex with strap on dildos.

I think morality has already gone out the window in the military people...

What happened in let's see...Rape of Vietnam because of their different race?

Destruction of Iraq through hatred of the Muslim religion, see Abu Gahrib or however you spell it.

Do you honestly think the military has any credibility after how many thousands (maybe millions) of civilians they have MURDERED in cold blood? I will never again support our troops the way most of them behave. I still have love for the people, but the military itself can go F*** itself.

biggie out

The military have morals? You've got to be kidding! Upon recruitment I watched Army recruiters hand out boxes of drug flushes to hopeful candidates, criminal records expunged, sexual advancements made on young women trying to get in, advice on how to lie on the tests, etc. etc. The fact is with the lengths they go to get kids in the military, the idea of kicking them out for homosexual reasons make no sense. I think it acts simply as a loophole so they can get rid of soldiers that might stir up trouble for them in some way. If we were all to live by military 'morals' we'd be much worse off.
