With Big Business in full effect worldwide and G Dubya at the healm stearing mankind will global "Trickle Down Economics" eventually lead to a Modern Middle Ages?

Are there signs of this already? I say Yes!

Trickle down economics does not work and everytime the government "claims"(but really does not) to have a "hands off" market our government is always subsidizing the largest and most powerful companies. Why is the Bush Administration preventing a true "laissez fair" economy both domestically and internationally?

Wouldn't a true "laissez fair" economy be one in which the government stays out of ALL business affairs including unnecessary tariffs and taxation.

A prime example of a subsidized business would be an American Auto Manufacturer. If we didn't have these huge subsidees for our Corporations we wouldn't still have the Pontiac Aztec, which has got to be one of the worst thought of and ugliestest cars that has ever rolled out.

If your American Tax Dollar wasn't going into GM's pocket bad ideas like this would of never come into fruition in the #'s that they did and instead we would have many more smaller auto manufacturers which is increased competition all going after the sucker who got the Aztec instead.

How wrong am I?

Why? business need consumers with money to buy what they are selling. How is better for them to have a broke consumer market.

What are they. The whole world is benifitting from the free markets of the US even if we are getting the short end of the deal since no one else has such an open trade policy. Many people like my self are no longer stuck in some factory like our parents. My father worked for 32 years at a factory and hated everyday he was there. From 10 years old and on he told us to never work they way he did. He raised us to work for our selfs and not get trapped by some company.

A derogatory term applied to Reaganomics, or supply-side economics, trickle-down economics is the theory that tax cuts for the wealthy merely "trickled down" to the bottom groups and that the rich benefited at the expense of the economy. Similar criticisms were raised about the supply-side tax cuts enacted by Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon in 1921 but not for those made by John Kennedy in the 1960s. Supply-side cuts involve cutting taxes across the board but most dramatically for those in the top tax brackets. The rationale was that those who paid the most taxes would then be able to reinvest their tax "savings." Thus, supporters have countered the phrase "trickle-down" with the one coined by John Kennedy: "a rising tide lifts all boats."

The best economic times in the US were under Kennedy and Reagan. Like it or not fact is that if you want to work hard you will do well. Sitting on your can gets you nowhere

Wouldn't a true "laiss

Big 3 Auto Heads Get Little From President
President Bush promised yesterday to deliver a message to Asian trading partners to "treat us the way we treat you" but offered top U.S. auto executives little help in their battle to turn their companies around.

"The secret to getting rich is not to work hard, but to get others to work hard for you."
Michael parenti.

The fact is you cant get wealthy without making others suffer economically and socially.
There could be no wealthy plantation owners without the poor cotton pickers. No rich kings without the poor serfs.

there is no trickle-down effect, just a siphoning up of money from the middle class and poor.

Look at Mexico. You are looking at the future. Trans-national corporations are the modern equivalent of the nobility of the middle ages. They are immune to national regulations and have power to use the poor exactly as they please. Cannon fodder and cash being the two uses employed most. Globalism is the number one enemy of the middle class and of the movement of ordinary people to better the lot of mankind as a whole. Most conspiracy "nuts" are aware of the alternative technologies that have been squashed by corporations and of their attempts to patent parts of the genome or newly discovered natural drugs and chemicals discovered in the rainforests.

I'm not anti business and I'm certainly not a socialist, but in my lifetime I have seen a steady erosion of social gains won in the labour movement and the courts and legislatures over the years. The "third worlding" of the first world is well under way. As happens all too often in history, we are being done in by our own elected leaders. Look at all the term contract employees in the labour force these days and the roll back of medical and dental benefits that used to be taken for granted. Look at all the part time jobs and the export of jobs to the third world. Who does that benefit?

This squashing of the middle classes has been sneaking up on us for quite some time. If you depend on the mainstream economic structures for your survival you are in trouble. My advice is to start forming networks and combines of your own to fight the large organizations that want to turn you into a peon. If you know of a company that closes plants in your country and ships jobs overseas, don't buy their products.

Parts of the US are having problems. The NE has been loosing jobs and whole indrustries for decades. The jobs are not only going over sea's but companies have also moved to to the SE because of the high taxes and anti-business regulations that NE states impose on them. When I had my trucking company in NY we had to deal with all kinds of regs that you don't have to in the south or SW.
I live in Vegas now but you really can't compere Vegas to other cities. We have nonstop growth here. The housing market while softening is still very strong. Here if you want to work you will make a good living.
The only state in the SW that has problems is Cali and it's all because of how they run that state.
States like NY, CA, MA and others that are having problems think that they can keep taxing their way out of it. They don't want to change. So they will keep loosing jobs, indrustries and people to other states.
I grew up in NY and it is a great place to live but it got so that there was no work. My parents pay nearly 8 grand per year in property tax on a house that is worth 120 grand in Vegas the tax on a 600 grand house is around 3 grand. I can go on and on. When I left for Vegas I said it was like when my grand parents left Italy. There was no future for them so they came to America. It's the same when we move from the NE for other states.
Back to the topic, it depend where in the US you are when you say the middle class is shrinking. I believe they are just moving to where the jobs, and lower taxes are.
