ID cards and passports won't be secure, all this new encryption is a load of rubbish. I myselg work in the computer industry so i do know about it. Take a look at this article in the guardian for a show of what security we can muster

A brief summary, the passports use 3DES encryption, a supposedly secure encyption which was cracked less than a year after the passports were issued. This allows anyone to clone a passport, they say the new facial recognition makes this pointless, but they don't tell you that the facial recognition system is wrong 20%-25% of the time. Wonderful for security.

Read the article and then consider having an ID card with all your details in one handy place to be stolen by criminals.
