Bob Dylan is a false prophet?

It appears that Pope Benedict thought that Bob Dylan was some sort of false prophet, and at one point intervened to stop him from playing music at the Vatican. All of this while John Paul II was still alive.

I mean sure Dylan was born Jewish, but to think that he is some sort of prophet is simply insane. His music is pretty amazing and all, but claiming that that he could possibly be the the spawn of satan because of it is a little over the top.

Any takes on Benedict's view?

A few things.
Pope Benedict has already said that he prefers his spiritual music to be "Traditional". ie, none of this hippy guitar playin' Christian Rock stuff.
(And personally, that stuff makes me cringe too)
He wants things to be formal and reverent.

And secondly, Dylan has is own philosophy, which while quite Christian and honourable, is not exactly Vatican mandated Catholic dogma. I could imagine the pope listening to the lyrics and thinking that no, they don't completely match up with our Official Line.
