I feel ya. I've spent about 3 of my 3 1/2 years on deployemnts. I've been to Kuwait 3 times, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Saudi. A few of my buddies from
my old unit told me they are punching out to go back to Iraq for 7 more months starting in January. We just got back in September and we've been
there since the invasion. I hate that place, the people are pretty friendly though. (Though that might have something to do with the fact I have a
high powered 7MAG rifle strapped to me.

LoL,
To the topic:
Like Russian said:
US troops did swap thier weapons for AKs many times..
In Iraq..
As those with M4s felt that they didnt have weapon that reabile enough..
And those that had M16s felt that they didnt have weapon reabile and short enough..
But this reability is more of a matter of maintanance..
Also i think that supperior KO power of AK and better penetration also had something to do with it..
That many took enemy weapons..
And fine sand is much more of a hazard to Armalite type of weapons as they have more 'high tolerances' and they dont use as 'violant' mechanism as
AKs do..
Like pics from MrDurden here showed.. theyll have to even wrap AT-4s to plastic to protect them from sand..
And AT-4s dont really have that many moving or/and sensitive parts..

if he is using that Ak i wouldnt hold it against him. it is safer for them to use Aks than the M-16. the sound of a Ak is alot differant than the
m-16. enemys are tought to tell the differance and fire at the noise of the M-16 at night. they cant tell who you if you are using their gun.

We are also tought to tell the difference, so we also have to be careful that some dumb private doesnt know we are in the area, he hears an AK and
starts peelin off rounds in our direction. It's a double edged sword, and the only reason my unit did it was for reliability and because ammo was
readily available.

Thanks for the pics dude..
Again..
Some notes:
"I couldnt help myself"
(OMG! Isnt Saddam pretty now, some positive PR to him from US Army..)
"A cache of Iraqi weapons that were rounded up from all the POW's. They are set to have explosives placed on them to be destroyed"
(Were the SKS:s and AK-47s/AKMs/Tabuks the most modern fire arms that you have seen in there?)
And what comes to the 'gore' well.. it didnt bother me..
Lets face it.. those pics were quite 'clean or sterile'..
Im sure that you know what im talking about..

its not unusual for any troops to use other weapons lting around, some are better at somethings than others, and your all taught the merits and
failings in training. i have a friend in the paras who uses a CAR-15 normally instead of his standard issue SA80. the SAS uses German weapons they
use HK MP5's. mind you, H&K are owned by BAe Systems now anyway, so they are british now i suppose!
if i had to go into battle with the weapon that i would be issued with, id be actively searching for a better one, so i could throw that piece of Junk
SA80 away! thankfully in the RAF i dont tend to need it!

No problem. My hope was that the more people I share those pics with, the more people will understand. Ignorance too often breeds hate or fear. On
average I would say that I ran accross Haji's with AK-47's, 74's, and SKS with a bunch of mods on them.

MrDurden,
So they do have AK-74s?
Of caliber 5,45x39mm?
I did see one photo of Uday or Qusay with one..
(AK-74M..)
But i havent seen any other pics from Iraq in which these weapons were visible..
Btw,
AK-74M has been in service in Russia since 1991..
So..
Btw,
"Haji's" is that modern military slang for local 'VC'?

Yup, we caught quite a few of 'em carrying the AK-74 5.45x39.5 model. A lot of stuff I saw out there was pretty fishy. One example was some French
SATCOMM equipment that wasnt even released by their government until the mid 90's, which would not only break the ban on selling arms, etc to Iraq;
it would bust it over the knee!! hehe But Yeah, "Haji" was the official term used to describe the natives, enemies and friendlys. We got in trouble
for calling 'em "Rag-heads", "towel-heads", etc. So our CO approved "Haji". Sort of like "Jerry" for the Germans in WWII or "Charley" in
Nam.

The pics might have to come down
It seems since I have posted the new pics I was skeptical about posting I have been recieving a high number of e-mails per day with mixed reviews.
Below you will see that I am even recieving e-mails from Marines of substancial rank in my own command (Which I have posted below). What do you all
think?

You've got some great photos on your website. I think photos like these
need to be shown however I'd take off the ones showing the Iraqi
soldier. It's against the Geneva Convention. Drop me an email or talk
to the Legal officer if you've got a question.

sound is NOT the reason its the durability.
and as MOST people know AKs are very good at that.

VERY true. I've pulled an AK out of a pond, racked it, and the thing was able to rock-n-roll like it was brand new. If you fart on the M-16 wrong
it'll jam. You gotta love letting the lowest bidder build your weapon.
