This is old news. But you can see it on a lot of troop pictures all over the internet. Funny I thought the m-16 was the ultimate weapon. I prefer my ak over my ar-15 anyday.

i think that pic looks more like he has found/confisscated them from the Iraq people. Dont they gather guns away from them?
just look how he is holdin the ammo and gun.

The thing to look for it the shoulder strap from his own M-16. I can't make one out, so don't discount the fact that he might be using it. It is most likely that he has confiscated the AK, but not a given.

Well it is true that some of the soldiers are using AKs. The M-16 has never performed well in bad conditions. We have to see if the XM8 can match the AKs.

back in vietnam almost all of the SEALs and special forces teams preferred to use AKs over their m-16s...if they can get their hands on one, they will usually switch

There is a perfectly logical explanation for all of this. In fact I personally used some of these weapons while participating in this campaign. Some Marine units were not issued nor are they issued heavy/mounted weapons i.e. M249 Squad Automatic Weapons, M240G, 50 Caliber MG, etc. Some units include my unit 1st Force Recon Co, BSP Platoon, or a unit like Explosive Ordnance Disposal. We had to utilize weapons we captured for our stronger defense. As a personal preference I would take a Russian made SVD-Draganov over any sniper weapon we use, ANY DAY!

Oh, as for the AT-4, thats to keep the sand out. They have 2 versions of packaging that come with it. 1 for sand and 1 for water. That one is obviously for sand.
