Its off the coast, not on the island its self.. though

That is what I mean, if is in the ocean then it will include the entire Caribbean . . .

If oil is found in the ocean that means that US oil has rights to start digging at the coast of PR that is its territory . . .

But . . . Why US oil companies has not done so yet? . . .

Because it will be to costly and an environmental nightmare to do so . . .

But if Cuba strikes oil!!!!!! So US oil companies will move next door to Cuba in PR.

No one cares?

Should we be happy for Cuba? Be cautious of Cuba? Steal Cubas oil?
I think we should steal it and i'll tell you why. NO ordinary Cuban will ever enjoy one penney of Cuban oil.
People will continue to starve and save for that day when they can put a patch on the float and sail for the US of A.

Exactly my thought. Cuba is socialist. Socialist countries have two classes, ultra rich and poor. Money will pour into Cuba...the ultra rich will be rolling in it...and the poor will still be given just enough to survive.

double posting problems tonight marge?

We actually wanted to last year..

It was defeated by ecologically minded people (thank god) because they wanted to build rigs off the beaches of Florida and the Keys .. including the Everglades.

PR is not near the oil.

Cuba is centered on it. We still can do a angled drill into the reserves and drain it.. but it wouldn't be taken lightly via international community..

the reserves are all over the Gulf, many are tapped by our companies.. but we cannot violate soverignty for oil (unless its in the Middle East
) or violate fragile eco systems and pristine wild life.

It is impossible to use an oil embargo.. it goes onto the world market .. you never really truly know what oil your getting.

Um no - you definately know where your oil is coming from and it's easy to prevent the export of any oil production by Cuba.

Umm no, we cannot blockade a free nations exports with out declaration of war or through express permission from Congress.. either way.. why would we block their exports?

We can try and block us importing their goods..

However, the companies that get the oil, mostly Norwegians and Spanish companies.. will export it to Venesualla or else where, but most likely Venesualla for refining.. which will then be shipped through out the world.. but it should be noted that Venesualla is currently where America gets the largest percentage of it's oil.. if Cuban oil is in the ports, you can bet our companies will buy it and import it.. or Citgo could import Cuban oil directly from Venesualla and sell it in there stations..

We block Iranian oil, but theres no knowing if people don't buy it and resell it to us in another country like Sudan or Iraq.

Monroe Doctrine - foreign investment in their oil could be seen as a violation, trust me they could concoct anything.
