Terror Alert Level: Details on current plots - Scary

<<  1    2  >>

Topic started on 23-12-2003 @ 12:07 AM by Dreamz

www.azcentral.com...://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/1222terrortargets-ON.html

Much of the recent intelligence makes broad references to large urban areas, including New York, Washington, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, while other pieces of intelligence cite such obscure locales as Rappahannock, a county in Virginia, and Valdez, Alaska, where tankers load oil from the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, according to several senior U.S. officials.

But the FBI, the CIA and other authorities have also picked up troubling intelligence about other plots, and efforts to blow up chemical and hazardous materials facilities, nuclear power plants, dams, power grids, ports and airports.

Of particular concern, he said, are vague references to upcoming attacks on "major metropolitan areas and events that we're looking at ... bowl games, New Year's events, that kind of thing."

"I have never seen the national security leadership as tense and anxious as they are right now," said a second senior federal law enforcement official. He said even the timing of the elevation of the threat level was moved up a day because of rapidly developing concerns over the weekend. Bush administration officials were so concerned, he said, that they sent a plane to Missouri on Saturday to bring Attorney General John Ashcroft back to Washington from vacation.

This is some scary crap!! You know what’s even scarier people think a man living in a cave some place in the middle east has the resources to pull off something like this.

I agree DD, we need to up our resources and if need be put extreme pressure on Pakistan to start searching more extensively in the "dead" zone between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Bush, seriously needs to get some more troops over in that area. I am not one to be afraid of terrorist alerts, but reports like these from a credible news source that is unbiased like the AZCENTRAL really does not make me feel comfortable.

Bush, get on the frickin ball and get this guy.

Let me add a few more things.....

Foxnews Article.....www.foxnews.com...

Bush says -
Our government is doing everything we can to protect our country," Bush said. "American citizens need to go about their lives, but as they do so, they need to know that governments at all levels are working as hard as we possibly can to protect the American citizens."

Sounds like something already happened. Not a re-assuring tone by our president.

Another major factor in the decision was the holiday season, when more people are distracted and traveling and large numbers of people gather at events ranging from football bowl games to massive New Year's celebrations (search) in New York, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and elsewhere.

This just correlates what the AZ article stated. Just showing more than 1 source.

I wasnt very happy watching Patriot batteries being put in place around Washington again either. They really need to try and keep some of this stuff under public eye to relax fears. On the other hand, I think this threat is so real that they really want to show the American people that they have tried the hardest to stop an invisible enemy.

Dont these terror alerts this time make you the slightest bit more nervous than the past ones. I understand the "Cry wolf" theory, but this one just seems so much more legitimate.

BTW, I would love the Stinger. Think of all the squirrels I could get with them.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Personally I just hope it will be used as an excuse for the low holiday sales.

If you scatter the enemy, they're only harder to catch. The police do undercover busts so they can catch a handful at once, you bust one it tips off the others to run. They don't have a single safe haven, so they're scattered everywhere. At least with suicide bombers they can only do it once.

Oddly enough, the military switched from THREATCON to FPCON shortly before 9/11.
FPCON Bravo means a "more predictable threat." IDs get checked, vehicles searched. It's worth taking note of, but don't panic until you hear FPCON Charlie.

DD, I know I may sound extreme here, BUT if a chemical, nuclear or biological attack occured say in Miami.....I sure as hell would hope like hell that Marshall law would be inacted in that area temporarily until the public calmed down.

To myself, it doesnt seem part of any NWO or anything of such, just seems like the common sense thing to do if you ask me.

Anyways, thats off topic and I would rather stick to this.

More on locations:
Link
One senior Pentagon official described the terrorism threat level as "true orange," noting that some previous orange designations had been viewed with skepticism.
There are particular concerns about Washington, New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Nevada, a handful of other cities and two rural areas -- one in the East and one in the Southwest, officials said.

And this is interesting!! From the same article:
On Tuesday, the Pentagon will conduct a continuity-of-government exercise as part of the orange alert, officials said.
Key officials will be told to move to secret alternative facilities. It was not clear how many people would be involved or whether they would move by helicopter or motor vehicle.

Ouch!!!

Nice find Banshee, I read that article on CNN earlier and completely missed the continuity of government mention. If that doesnt raise eyebrows I sure as hell dont know what will. That is probably the scariest thing I have read sine the level of alert has been increased.

I dont scare easily, but I am getting nervous. Its not the alert status that has me thinking, but rather the amount of information that has been on the net for weeks, and in some cases months. As far as Europe goes, for the first time ever I was turned away at a military installation where I do my shopping. I didn't have my passport, never has this been a requirement for a retiree in the past. The men and women guarding the installations are visible nervous. Its very scary to sit in your car and notice that there is an MG pointed at you, never have I ever had this expierence, well at least not since Viet Nam. All I have to say is be aware, be carefull.

Ugh.

I gotta build me an underground bunker, somewhere..

It seemed all fine and dandy, then we get this crap. It happened last year too, but I wasn't nervous (probably because I didn't come to this board last year)

I mean, if they've got government officials moving to secret facilities..

Must. Move. To. Canada.

wasnt something similar planned for the morning of september 11th??

i feel this threat is real, perhaps more so than in the past when there has been and orange alert.

this morning i woke up and had a shower and felt that something was going on. i turned on the tv and saw the california quake. i just hope i dont have to turn on the tv and see the likes of september 11 2001 again.

I think you're right. Aussie. I think you're right.......there were excercises in the Wash. D.C. area that day, from news reports in the past.

"As two hijacked jetliners bore down on New York City's World Trade Center on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, two Air Force F-16 jet fighters were practicing bombing runs over an empty stretch of the Pine Barrens near Atlantic City.

The F-16 pilots had no idea of the impending tragedy in Manhattan, just eight minutes away in their supersonic jets.

Why? Why weren't they alerted? And even if they had been told about the hijackings, what could they have done?

The jets weren't armed to shoot down another plane. Their mission was bombing drills. Why?"

Wow this is scary stuff. I know that everyone has become "numb" to the threat alerts, but we all really need to pay attention. Flying cover again over DC and NY and all the other steps they are taking has to make you wonder. Just be aware of your surroundings and watch your @ss. I always tell my kids...if you are in school and another attack happens, we meet here at home. If they dont let you out of school I will be there to get you. Its important to have a plan with your kids so that they know that you will find them no matter what. My kids arent little either. They are about to be 15 and 17.
Everyone stay safe
