French Legislation Limits Private Filming of Violent Acts

The French Constitutional Council has approved a law that criminalizes the filming or broadcasting of acts of violence by people other than professional journalists. The law could lead to the imprisonment of eyewitnesses who film acts of police violence, or operators of Web sites publishing the images, one French civil liberties group warned on Tuesday.

Absolute disgrace! The EU is encouraging the infringement of individual rights by removing the most powerful evidence of Police brutality cases: Video footage. I wonder if the legislators remember Tienanmen Square or if they, like the Chinese dictatorship also deny those events.

If they are talking about like one gangmember fiming another gangmember beating on some old dude, Im all for it. As you said if they will make it illegal to film criminal acts by government that should not be criminalized. Two totally different circumstances. One could be considered aiding & abetting and the other whistleblowing.
