Navy Researching Vomit Beam

blog.wired.com

IVC proposes to investigate the use of beamed RF [radio frequency] energy to excite and interrupt the normal process of human hearing and equilibrium. The focus will be in two areas. (1) Interruption of the mechanical transduction process by which sound and position (relative to gravity) are converted to messages that are processed by the brain. (2) Interruption of the chemical engine which sustains the proper operation of the nerve cells that respond to the mechanical transduction mechanisms referenced in item (1). Interruption of either or both of these processes has been clinically shown to produce complete disorientation and confusion.

Wired.com has called this the Vomit Beam because it can incapacitate everyone in a room by making them lose their balance. "Second order effects would be extreme motion sickness." Well you know what would come next.

Seems Like A Lot Of Trouble To Go To...

...when they could just play some Michael Bolton albums over a PA system and achieve the same effect.

Why do weapons always have to have a negative incapacitating effect? Why can't they develop an orgasm beam? That would probably stop people in their tracks as well.

Why not have chemical weapons that just get people really high for days and days? Wouldn't that give the offense a good advantage?

yeah why such degrading methods of stoping people? Why can't they invent some sort of beam that is painless and instantlly immobilizes the target person(s)?

Because they don't work that way. They are trained to kill, kill, and kill. Not to put on a show. It's a get in, get out scenario. And if it were a rewarding offense, hell, what kind of war would that be?

An orgasm beam might be a good idea, im sure the enemy wouldnt be so angry if they have a little 'light relife' XD

Don't they already have a 'beam' that can make people poop themselves? I'm sure I saw that on brainiac
