Whilst communicating here with many members its obvious when we post to each other that we are unaware of the posters sex. Would it be a good idea to know who we were addressing, would it alter our attitude and opinions/views etc. towards each other. Would comments have a greater impact or be more sincere or is it best just to leave things as they are.

Our little mini-profile should show our name, gender and age.

It would help us know the person we're talking to better. Then I could sort of put a "face" to the person's name. One step closer to being a big ATS family!

Not as often as I would like.

One of the positives about ats imo at least is that all avatars are created equal.

I think the fact that gender isn't an issue around here makes the board a heck of a lot more productive.

Heck I didn't even know Byrd was a woman until about a month or so ago and it certainly didn't change my opinion of her or how I treat her.

If ya gots the goods gender doesn't matter. And being polite or respectful shouldn't be based on gender.

Unless of course we're talking about a tinfoil singles party or something.

In which case I think knowing someones gender is probably helpful.

Though I would like to point out the title of the thread is a bit misleading because quite frankly I thought I was being invited to participate in a new service here at ATS...but evidently my hopes and depraved dreams go unfulfilled.

Oh well.

Agreed. I keep clicking the title over and over and keep forgetting that it's not what it looks like. Makes me feel old. :bnghd:

I'd like to sign up to partake in....

Oh wait...

Damn! Should have read past the title.

:shk:

I'm male, I've got 2 minds to think about sex, which is the only reason I responded to this thread.

I hate being asked my gender because I just don't know what it is.

I'm serious.

My sex? That's easy - Female. I just don't know my gender.

I agree with the poster above who said that not knowing was a good thing though. When I speak to others I can imagine them all as Black French women and thats cool.

Being somewhat anonymous allows our voices to be heard, in my opinion.

YEah I agree it shouldnt be presented immediately.
If it interests you U2U them and tlak to them.

but I know, myself... if someone said something that I found immature... they could just be foreign, thus not able to speak the english language in a appropriate form, or they could be 12yr old kids being.. well immature.
not knowing has saved me offending someone by asking them to grow up!

People's gender shouldn't be an issue here at ATS. As others have stated your replies or arguments shouldn't be based on the gender of anyone. I think by not knowing this, it allows us all to be heard the same.

Plus it's not like it's a secret. Usually a persons name or avatar will give them away. Stereotyping I know, but hey, it's usually accurate.

As someone stated, just U2U them and ask if you're curious.

We're usually a pretty nice group, regardless of gender.

Member's gender should not be an issue.

But it's ok to know it too.

lol yeah I thought this thread was gonna be something else when I clicked on it ha ha ha.
I agree sex shouldn't be an issue, but also think it wouldn't hurt to be givin the option to have a tick box that appears by ure avatar if u wanted to state it.

I am a stupid man...I do stupid man things and tell stupid man jokes. I'm not a ignorant man, in fact, I'm pretty smart and pretty darn wise. It doesn't stop me from doing stupid man things. Ask my fiancee, who definately falls under the "Silly Girl" category.

Tee hee.

I have seen some members whose mini profile under the avatar displays gender and location. How do you edit that part ?

When I use my edit function I can't see the appropriate place. Maybe some members would be happy to display their gender, but are never appropriately offered the opportunity to do so ?

Yeah when I saw the title I was gonna come and have a moan that I wasn't getting any either ... ha ha
