TAIPEI -- Taiwan is planning to rename the memorial for its former president Chiang Kai-shek, officials said Saturday, the latest name-changing move by the independence-leaning government.
In a move strongly criticized by the opposition Kuomintang (KMT) Party -- which Chiang led -- a government panel has tentatively decided to rename the landmark "Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall" in capital Taipei to "Taiwan Democracy Hall."
