At 3 am this morning, Australian pub rock pioneer Billy Thorpe died of a massive heart attack. He was sixty.

The Australian music industry is mourning the death of Billy Thorpe.
The rock legend was rushed to Sydney's St Vincent's hospital early this morning, after suffering chest pains.

Hospital spokesman David Faktor confirmed the 60-year-old Thorpe had died.

Largely unknown outside of Australia, Thorpe was the template that bands such as AC/DC and Rose Tattoo aspired to.

It was Thorpes sound that Slash wanted to emulate for G 'n' R.

For those who don't know of the man; behold the awesomeness of "Mama"
(If you look carefully enough you can see the cameras vibrating as Billy belts it out). Straight from the era of great big hairy men:

RIP

Thorpie, you will be sorely missed.

No more gravity, nothing holding HIM down
Floating endlessly, as HIS ship leaves the ground
Through the walls of time, at the speed of light
Fly the crystal ship on IT'S celestial flight, on IT's celestial flight

I don't know much about Thorpe's History, and was only exposed to his Children of the Sun Album. But I really liked that music. I exposed the rest of my High school to it. Maybe I even sold a few albums for him.

RIP Billy..

It's great to hear from fans of Thorpes work, especially those from outside Australia. It's good to hear that you were out there spreading the word spacedoubt.
