You should make it a little longer.

Sure, you can just go back into the thread and edit it. There is a time limit (I believe), so hop to it.

There is indeed a time limit (a couple of hours or so), but up until it expires, you can edit the first post in the thread and change the title.

If you want to change a thread title after the "edit window" has expired, just send us a Complaint/Suggestion and a moderator can help you out.
