They sound complicated, but they're really just glorified grilled cheese sandwiches, plust they're delicious!

For each sandwich:

Generously butter two slices of your favorite sandwich bread on one side each. If desired, spread some Dijon mustard on the unbuttered sides. Heat a few slices of ham until warm in a hot skillet, remove to a slice of bread (unbuttered side up). Add a few slices of swiss, cheddar or American cheese. Place other slice of bread on top to form a sandwich with buttered sides out.

Fry in medium-hot skilled flipping until both sides are nicely browned and cheese is melted. Serve hot.

Ah, the classic fried ham and cheese sandwich.

The Dijon mustard is essential for this IMO, and I like them made with a nice sharp cheddar and smoked ham. I also like to put a dollop of sour cream on the plate to dip them in.

I think you just helped me decide what we're having for lunch today.

and if your lazy or walking past a starbucks there version is also quite nice.
but the ratio of cheese to ham is wrong there should be more cheese.

and you should try making it the tradtional way with emmental, but a nice cheddar sounds like a good idea.
