I came across this little tidbit of legislation, of which is requesting the abolishment of the IRS, and further, the repeal of certain taxation upon the American people, specifically the income taxes, and the repeal of the 16th Amendment. For those that do not know, the 16th Amendment did not grant Congress any "new" powers of taxation as was set forth in the Constitution.......

110TH CONGRESS

1ST SESSION [size=24]H. R. 25

To promote freedom, fairness, and economic opportunity by repealing the

income tax and other taxes, abolishing the Internal Revenue Service,

and enacting a national sales tax to be administered primarily by the

States.

right on man

a few of us here on US politics forum started a thread on the fairtax, personally I think it's the only way forward for america. our tax system is a joke and it costs over 260 billion dollars a year just for compliance. over a half trillion every 2 years just to comply with a tax code? talk about bogus.

the fairtax broadens our tax base creating a more stable source of government revenue, handles our social security issues, medicare issues, outsourcing issues, middle class issues, industrial and manufacturing base issues etc etc etc...

I was listening to hannitys radio show a week back and boortz said the republicans are using this as a platform for 08. the socialist democrats really dont have a chance. K street will be brought down.

Unfortunately the socialist democrats have a great advantage if the republicans run with the fair tax. See, the vast majority of Americans are incredibly short-sighted and stupid. As soon as they hear about the flat 20 something percent tax theyll run from it like they do from responsability.

I have full faith in the Democrats ability to exploit stupidity and hide facts and the Republicans ability to assume too much of the people.

I would love to see this thing go through. Hell, Id love to just see witholding go away if for nothing else but to remind people just how badly raped they are every year by forcing them to sign over one big check and get absolutely nothing in return.

yeah but when people hear that the income tax and all those other taxes will be abolished and the 16th will be repealed and eventually abolished and finally the icing on the cake... keep 100% of your paycheck and your pension this thing will be golden. the republicans will have AFT and many other non partisan orgs educating the people for them ( already doing so ), so they will basically bank the independent votes, the libertarian votes and the conservative votes and probably steal some democratic voters.

I have faith in the people on this issue, more politicians who ran on this issue won over the people who didn't and who opposed it so the talking points are strong the only problem I see is the harcore liberal controlled media who will spread misinformation on this ( cnn money mag already has ) so thats the only obstical that and the socialist politicians but we can overcome in time.

Personally I'd be more than happy to pay a higher sales tax if I was actually getting everything I earn on my paycheck. I don't think it'll happen though... Too many people with no clue what was actually going on would complain about paying 20 cents on the dollar for everything not realizing the benefits.

they have to be educated on hidden and embedded taxes, when they discover that they are paying into an income tax and also paying into hidden taxes passed on to the consumer aswell they should see the light, the key word is should.

it's like the democrats have a kung fu death grip on their voters, I honestly dont see what democratic voters see in their politicians other than they believe the government is the answer for everything and that they should be taken care of like babies.

I'd like to point out that I am a democrat (because I've yet to decide if another political label better suits my thoughts) and I don't believe the government is the answer for everything, nor do I want to be "taken care of like babies." I know it wasn't a personal attack on me, I just wanted to make it clear that the generalizations used about democrats are not necessarily true just because everyone believes they are.

well i apologize then if I came off harsh I just really dont see any pressure from the left on their elected officials to support this bill, here is the congressional and senetorial scorecard, EVERY SINGLE prominent democrat opposes this bill because it takes away the power that they love. instead I see democrats pushing people and electing people who propose a complete government take over of healthcare and for higher income taxation, this is very disturbing.

fairtax.org...

on the other hand independent, conservative and Libertarian voters are forcing their elected officials ( independents and Libertarians are rallying behind conservatives as far as voting goes for this bill ) to either support the bill or be voted out, we have more co sponors in the 110th than the 109th. the fairtax has the support of the nations top economists and universities yet the democrats refuse to support it aside from a few who rebeled against the majority in their party and still no groundswell of anger from the party constiuents??. until I see more democrats pressuring and getting their officials to go along with the people is when I will have a little bit more respect for the party as a whole.
