NAJAF, Iraq - Thousands of Iraqi Shiites took to the streets on Saturday in protest after US troops detained the son of one of their most powerful leaders as his convoy returned across the Iranian border.
Ammar al-Hakim, the son of Abdel Aziz al-Hakim who heads the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI), was arrested on Friday at the Mehran border crossing and held for several hours.
