Meteor Info HELP NEEDED

does anybody have any more information about this article?

Local news reported that a meteor the size of Alaska hurtling toward Earth could be covered in potentially lethal germs.

While the near vacuum of space isn't a perfect breeding ground for germs, scientists have shown that some bacteria and viruses can survive the most extreme conditions.

The meteor, named ZG-7134 by NASA scientists, will impact Earth March 21, 2008 at 11:16 am ET.

just want to know if this is real or not coz they seem to know how large it is, and they even gave a specific time for impact. anyways, any assistance will be appreciated. thanks in advance guys and gals.

1.Meteors don't get names. Asteroids do.
2.It's impossible to predict exact time of impact.

Those are the first indications of how seriously to take this article.

Not to mention the fact that if a Near-Earth Asteroid does impact earth, germs will be the last of our worries. We'll be too busy dealing with the the blast wave, firestorm, and atmospheric dust cloud to worry about a few germs.

So no, I'd say a spoof site, especially considering some of the linked "related news".

The theory that life got seeded on Earth by spores or bacteria from a comet or asteroid does have some support in the scientific community. But this ain't it.

That article is total bull#, and for the following reasons....

1. Meteors are tiny particles of dust that burn up high in the atmosphere. Large objects are called asteroids.

2. I have never known an asteroid to be given a designation starting with "ZG".

3. If anything the size of Alaska hit Earth, then we wouldn't have to worry about germs. In fact, no living thing would have to worry about anything, because the entire planet would have been sterilised.
