Reason for is believed to be "domestic" meaning that problems at home have resulted in this move. Labor are low in the polls, the Conservative have open a HUGE lead on Labour and the Army have spoken out numerous times about Iraq.

This is probably being used to help Labour in the elections coming up and to help Brown when he takes over as Prime Minister.

not all troops will be brought home, but the process is to begin soon.

update:

1,500 will be home within weeks and most by Christmas

Sounds like they took a look at the Dem's election results and had a cow.

Maybe there's something to this democracy stuff after all...

At least in England the government still listen to the people and Iraq has become a very unpopular war.

Here in the US Bush ignore the people's votes and rather enforce his war chief powers.

Is all about politics.

British Government not English

England is not a country, its a state within a Union.

moving on...

the other 1,500 will only come home for Christmas if conditions are met, which is probably likely. So, 3,000 should be home this year and the other 4,000 will hopefully be home next year

Well is your fault that your country is so complicated.

Actually, it's the Scots fault for not accepting full integration 300 years ago

more complicated than the UNITED STATES of American? With Federal and State laws. LOL

This pullout was scheduled ages ago, now Blair is just confirming a time-table. But yes, there are political considerations. Labour are running scared. David Cameron is a massive threat to them.

More breaking news...and its very basic, read into it what you will

Apparently, the President of the United States has contacted and spoken to the Prime Minister regarding this.

As Blair said the other day

At some point, we will be in opposition in coming years

Labour will probably take an election defeat and hope the Tories are only voted for one term.

Perhaps Bush is going to offer Blair a position on the Carlyle group firm if he keeps backing up his war.

What Blair to do . . . I guess poor Blair can not talk without Bush authorization

At least somebody's listening, of course this maybe why Bush needs to have a US troop buildup.

I don't know if it was reported in the States,

but apparently the UK and America fell out over the issue of Iraq because we refused to send more troops. it was reported in UK media. plus, the UK media published a US military video showing the friendly fire incident involving a UK troops (one was killed) and that created a fire storm here.

Yes the incident with the mistaken target I saw the video and it was very damaging to the US.

The most damaging thing was that it was released before it was due.

The White house has just released a State thanking UK troops for the service in Iraq and in the South. It welcomed the move and said that the White House supports the same values as the UK by removing troops from Iraq.

Thats the basic version of it.

Isn't it kind of odd though given the fact that the other day all the news were filled with the story that Prince Harry was going to Iraq???

I wonder if a war with Iran will throw wrench in these plans.
