Would you like to see ATS's UFO section divided into 2 categories?

I think many would like to see the UFO section divided into two groups, maybe "The Facts" and the "No Proof".

The fanciful stories that cannot be verified should be off on their own. Now granted, how do I know that people are not REALLY being abducted every other night? But there are no facts to prove it, (why don't these people put up vid cams all over their house and yards). If you want to debate that, take it here: www.abovetopsecret.com...

But there really WAS something seen by many over O'Hare, that should be in "The Facts" section.

The problem is when new people come to this forum to look for real info from intelligent people on the UFO phenomenon, they are either brickwalled by people who are having half-grey children and prey to the reptilians for help, or they come with real info and are rudely debunked into the ground. Or they run into an arse on the board.

Because of the above, I also think that the fancifuls make up the majority, posting on ATS more often. The majority of intelligent people visiting ATS are either lurkers or post less often.

I know that the owners mean well for this forum and it is the best there is. I give credit to ATS for how much they DO moderate things here, and I know how tough it has to be to do that alone much less start separating these things. But IMO for ATS to move to the next level, it simply must be done.

I think the owners will take this seriously if the majority here want it, let's vote on it.

yep, maybe there should be two different forums, one mainly to do withour reality and the other hypothetical. would please people, especially those that complain, though i do not understand why people who complain just do not read the threads they do not want to read.
though all ufo/alien stuff is out there stuff, at the end of the day, this is one of the reasons why this board is so liked.

The biggest threads are on obvious unreal topics.

Looking for resolution of unknowns of any type may not be for
this type of forum or any forum.

How many years and how many books have popular ideas sold on
TV and other media. Even real situations are never told.

Like how do rockets work, well that was covered fairly well except
for the math. Nuclear power was covered well except for the aspects
of isotopes.

The early launch failures pointed out the need for Gyros.
Yet the company in charge with the contract needed more money
to do the job right. With a new pension plan they all retired
by the time good gyros came out and the plans were given to
the government to find another company to build the gyros.

Yeah that story is little known.

Then there is the China launch problems that got solved.

Yeah full disclosure on a lot of things won't happen.

I agree with you, but there is no objective way to cut it. People who truly believe that their thoughts or perceptions are real will try to post in the fact section.

However, if there were to be an "UFO Analysis" forum, where only pictures, reports, and objective facts belong, and then a forum for everything else, that might provide the separation you're looking for, but part of me doesn't even see that working.

This is really a good idea. Something like a "smoking gun" section only. In here you have to give some type of proof or reference to make a post.

i would also like to see some seperation between the "pics/video/offical reports ect " & "no proof" stuff.

YES! Maybe break it into three sections, with the third being...

I'm writing a book... section.

I think we're all sick of Sleepers thread and its a shame so many people here are treating it like "Ask Ann Landers" I pop in there every other week and I just freaking crack up. "Dear Sleeper, do the aliens wear plad?" "Mr. Sleeper, do aliens fart?"

I gotta stop, I'm craking myself up!!

Right, because nobody comes to this section of ATS, especially the ones who care about the UFO subject.

Censorship on ATS.

Oh you are so not going to make friends by turning onto this route. How can you even say that?

You only registered what? A week ago? And you think you know enough about this site to slam the owners and members who work hard on this site every day to make sure that censorship is denied? Some nerve.

And by the way, I have a few Mia X albums, and I like her too.

*Edit to add: You do realize that by this being on the BB&Q forum, that even more people that just members on the url www.abovetopsecret.com will see this "censored thread."

I am not he re to make friends, I am here to help a cause. The UFO community in general is extremely unorganized. How can we expect to be taken seriously to the public this way, to bring disclosure?

And what does it matter that I am new here? That means my opinion means less? The people replying to this thread seemed to agree with the subject matter.

I don't even know where to find this thread from the homepage, what a joke. This subject was related to the UFO community, I don't see them checking in here for UFO discussion.

Well for one, people check in here. And if you can't find this thread then...I don't even really know.

And there is a thread here, ATS, BTS, What would you like to see in the future?
That you should use to request new forums/sub-forums.

I like the idea MiahX.

Like my thread, although the topic matter was valid - I'm sure the thread would have turned into a free-for-all w/ tons of bickering and personal attacks.

A fresh look and analysis of the site from new members is a good thing.

It's a tough situation for the owners and mods. to regulate the credibility of the Alien + UFO forum without resorting to censoring members and their posts.

I think the bottom line is that a lot of bright people just want the truth and would find it more effective to unearth if fantasies (whatever they might be) are distilled to a different forum.

Realistically though, could you imagine all the conflict, confusion, and post moving that would arise?

Cheers Miah

*sigh*

I was making the point that you have been a member since the 8th, yet you are deciding to declare that ATS censors material.

You are proposing a change to the forum. I'm sorry, but that involves more people than just the ones that you talk to, it involves every member of this site.

I never said that your ideas were any less meaningful due to the timeframe of your membership. I did intend to imply however that your accusation of censorship is more than likely because you have not spent enough time on this site yet to realize how important it is made by the administration not to curtail any expression that is made in a decent manner.

I will bet the mods that if they did a vote on it, the major majority would prefer them split.

Challenge set.

Well said and I like the "UFO - Analysis" a good idea, I know we have a good number of members who would be rubbing their hands at the idea.

It is however my belief that there are only 2 resulting categories -

Hoax/Identified
or
Unknown/Inconclusive

A third answer, means the world will change.

Time For A Split?

The difference between "factual" and "fanciful" can be very subjective -- even fanciful.

If the staff were to take responsibility for deciding which was which, it would run contrary to that ATS is about: providing an environment where people can make up their own minds about what is fact and what is fancy.

However, I do think this idea has a great deal of merit -- if we were to implement it in a manner more suited to our culture.

Maybe we should...

Split Aliens & UFOs Into Two Separate Forums: Aliens -- And UFOs!

The forums would be defined roughly as follows:

Aliens Forum: Discussion of extraterrestrial life, aliens among us, abductions, contact and the "alien agenda".

UFOs Forum: Discussion of the UFO phenomenon, UFO sightings, theories surrounding UFOs and what they could be.

Though we've traditionally tended to lump them together, the truth is that each topic is actually distinct and can be addressed separately.

It's possible to study UFOs without having any interest in aliens, and it's also possible to study aliens without having any interest in UFOs.

UFOs are, after all, unidentified by nature. If they are identified as being alien spacecraft, then they're not UFOs anymore.

Maybe it's time to give each field of study its own forum.
