On the Security forum in Munich, Putin held a very aggressive stance towards US foreihn policies. Here are some of the highlights of his speech from the CNN aricle

-- Russian President Vladimir Putin blasted the United States Saturday for the "almost uncontained" use of force in the world, and for encouraging other countries to acquire nuclear weapons.
...
Putin told a security forum attracting top officials that "we are witnessing an almost uncontained hyper use of force in international relations" and that "one state, the United States, has overstepped its national borders in every way."

"This is very dangerous. Nobody feels secure anymore because nobody can hide behind international law," Putin told the gathering.

While i totally agree with his accusations, I am a little surprised that he voiced these concerns so loudly on an important international forum. It was my impression that Russia preferred to keep a low-key stance and did not criticize so directly the US-led war efforts in iraq or Afghanistan. Here is what the Republican McCain had to say about the speech:

U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, who is participating in the conference, called Putin's address "the most aggressive speech from a Russian leader since the end of the Cold War."

What is your take on this? Why is Putin so harsh and why now?

becasue if that recent killing in london, putin probably believes they are trying to frame him for it. he probably did not do it, but seeing as he has a past, people in the west can do these things and blame him.

thats probably why he said what he said also, he seemed to be talking out against nwo world government thing, and does not want russia to be part of it. he knows the power really lies in europe, and i heard recently he had some problems with the rothchilds.

I agree, it seems he makes his position clear. I never heard about his problems with the Rotchields though. Can you please elaborate on this? I know he has some problems with ex-elites such as Berezovski, and that recently Hadarkovski got additional charges so he would stay in prison. Is taht what you mean?

Putin is a sociopath-and a leader of a country.

Goes hand in hand doesn't it.

I think he has to be taken for ever word and action he does and doesn't do. you have to look at him like a sociopath.

Just like Kim Jong Mentally Ill of North Korea, you have to play him.

Putin will kill silently like Stalin..he will destroy all that gets in his way.

Putin is stepping up now because the US is weak, and he has been asserting Russian supremeacy in the surrounding areas for a while now, what wiht chechnya, blackmailing former allies by shutting off their gas supplies, and assasinating reporters and figures that have stood up to him.

Jacob Rothschild, 4th Baron Rothschild Wikipedia

developed strong business interests in Russia and is a friend of Mikhail Khodorkovsky and a trustee of the Open Russia Foundation, a UK based entity founded in 2001 as the charitable arm of YUKOS.

Control of Mikhail Khodorkovsky's shares in the Russian oil giant Yukos have passed to renowned banker Jacob Rothschild, under a deal they concluded prior to Mr. Khodorkovsky's arrest, the Sunday Times reported.
Voting rights to the shares passed to Mr. Rothschild, 67, under a "previously unknown arrangement" designed to take effect in the event that Mr. Khodorkovsky could no longer "act as a beneficiary" of the shares, it said.

How do you come to that conclusion? because we are engaged in multiple wars in the M.E.? Compared to russia, the US has a hell of alot more military force behind it.

What Putin stated was a fact of observation and not conjecture. How exactly are we taking away from the importance of his statement by noting Russias own regional issues in Georgia and Chechnya, when it's imperative to understand candidly the fundamental problem of unipolarism in U.S foriegn policy and it's inherent use of coercion. We are facing a country that has disregarded all rational and interntional law to inforce it's geopolitical goals. People need to wake up to the smell of blood that has been spilled from senseless slaught by U.S policies.

How do you come to that conclusion?

We're clearly weak. We can't get iran to stop making nukes without overtly invading, and we're not going to do that because we mucked up in iraq so bad. We haven't been able to make any headway with North Korea either. We sat back and did nothing while islamists took over somalia. We've been unable to prevent the Chinese from establishing spheres of influence in south america. We're being opposed by a socialist alliance in south america. Our allies except the UK, Poland, and Australia have utterly abandoned us. We're dependant on arabian oil, and our cause in lebanon was destroyed.

Meanwhile, russia assasinates a critic, in London, and neither we nor the UK even utter a protest.

So yeah, anyone can see, the US is pretty weak right now. It won't be long before our bases in the stans start collapsing and emptying out, and then we'll have lost the 'keystone' to eurasia, while also taking a shellacing in our own backyard (south america).

The russians are correct, strategically, to criticize us right now. Heck, they've already taken the far more serious steps of blackmailing their old satellite republics and sending in spetznaz to their capitals.

Compared to russia, the US has a hell of alot more military force behind it.

We have power projection, the russians do not, that is correct. We both still have world devouring nuclear arsenals, so its really irrelevant, we're not going to be attacking each other, even by proxy, anytime soon. That old game is over, a new one is on, and we're losing pretty terribly so far.

Also, notice, in order for us to use our military in central asia, we need to cross the globe, the russians just need to amass troops on their border, which, admitedly, they are having problems doing. But they don't need to be able to occupy mexico city to prop up a pro-russian regime anyway. They live next door to the playing field.

What Putin stated was a fact of observation and not conjecture.

We invaded two countries. Everyone agrees that Afghanistan was 'acceptable'. No one was saying that iraq did not have wmd before hte invasion, not the russians, not the french, and not the UN inspectors.

Meanwhile, putin sends his special forces to occupy eastern european capitals, and assasins into london, while re-writting the constitution to centralize his power, something bush is accused of, but hasn't actually done.

So yeah, putin's statements aren't completely off base, but its a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Putin criticized US, but more than that he openly stated the general opinion of the "Rest of the World" (AKA not US/UK and few select allies). Whether this opinion of US actions is right or not, most people in the world share it, and many leaders hold back from publically stating it. You can accuse Putin, but you would be hard pressed to find real counter arguements to what he said.

Sure there is alot of wars and fighting in the world. But nearly all current wars (other than those waged by US) are internal civil conflicts involving para-military groups, or border disputes. US is the only military power that actively pursues military engagements overseas, toying with fates of millions of people in quest to further its own political or tactical foreign policy agenda. Sure Europe, and likely Russia, has nothing to be concerned about. But many Asian countries are cautious of where this will lead. It seems the only reason US is not attacking more, is because it is currently tied down in Iraq- otherwise several nations would be in the crosshairs.

And about the bandwagon of accusing Putin- way to stay with the flow. Don't mind actual facts, instead listen to what CNN and prejudice tells you. Nevermind that maybe one in one hundred people in US know his actual policies and politic views, let alone his history and his goals. In every story involving Putin, one can't go long before KGB is mentioned. Well do you know what he did in KGB? Do you know what KGB really is? Oh yes everyone in US and the West thinks its an evil organization tasked with kidnapping people at night, torturing dissidents, and spreading the good word on Communism. KGB is nothing more than a national agency tasked with national security- and given means to ensure said security. It is not much different from FBI/CIA.

What is Putin's official and unofficial policy? Why did he take power away from the Oligarchs? Why is he using Russia's natural resources for political ends? What is his ultimate goal? All I hear on here and the news is rather pathetic speculation. It is sad how many decisive opinions one can form based on nothing more than prejudice. But who actually takes time to research policies and actions? Seems not even the once respected media giants like BBC or CNN- but they got their own agenda to stick to. I am not saying everything that Putin does is correct, but there is a general misconception about who he is and whah he does.
