Once again a person other than the standard white male is running for the office of President of the United States of America. Democrat Barack Obama
declared himself a candidate Saturday for the White House in 2008. Will Obama be able to overcome where others have failed before him?

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Democrat Barack Obama declared himself a candidate Saturday for the White House in 2008, evoking Abraham Lincoln's ability
to unite a nation and promising to lead a new generation as the country's first black president.
The first-term senator announced his candidacy from the state capital where he began his elective career just 10 years ago, and in front of the
building where in another century, Lincoln served eight years in the Illinois Legislature.
"Each and every time, a new generation has risen up and done what's needed to be done," he said. "Today we are called once more - and it is time
for our generation to answer that call."

I am very interested to see how this will play out. It seems the top 2 democratic candidates are both nontraditional, one is a woman, and the other
is african-american.
Even before announcing his candidacy Sen. Obama had issues brought to mainstream news attention..i.e. muslim schooling, religious background. Now
that he has announced what kind of attacks will be inflicted on him?
I have no doubt that the "powers that be" in no way want this man to be president. Without much of a political background he has already drawn a
devoted following, and with more mainstream attention I think his following will only get larger.
