I think this will certainly anger Beijing. It seems to me they are doing it right though, baby steps to get passed the giant snake.

Tawian Stamp

TAIPEI, Taiwan - President Chen Shui-bian said Thursday the name 'Taiwan' would soon replace 'China' on the island's stamps, a move likely to anger Beijin

Silly games.

Problem is, regulations require manufacturer stamps to show the country of origin. The official name for the Taiwanese nation is Republic of China (ROC). Taiwan is simply a geographical term for the name of the Island. If he wants the stamp changed he has to rename the government too. Politicians seldom know the details behind the statements they make.

The Taiwan-China situation is frightening and hopelessly corrupt. On one hand I think China will eventually march, but on the other do remember no-one fought during the dissolution of the USSR into its satellite states.

Elsewhere in the article.. it mentions the tradition of ordering men to stand outside a famous grave, so called "honor duty". Tell me how it is any less corrupt to order men to waste away their precious heartbeats defending a dead man!

The people doing it are a political group - the DPP. It isn't TAIWAN or the people of Taiwan doing this. The opposition party in Taiwan favors reunification.

It's like saying if the Republicans manage to push out a measure, than it describes exactly what the mindset of the American people is... it's not. It only describes the mindset of the Republicans.

I like to see things like this happen.

Especially if it pisses PRChina off.

I am personally all for Taiwan either fully declaring itself as a sover-
eign state, or seeking statehood with the U.S. (which 15% of the
population support).

It is sad that the American government has decided to not protect
the ROC (a free country with a liberal democracy), if it were to
announce it's sovereign Independence.

Yeah sure, How about declaring outright War against Communist China?

I tough the general opinion right now was that the US needed less wars?

Well, not outright war, more like a you try and mess with Taiwan
e'll stand next to them in defence.

The general concenses is that the Iraq war and the WoT is some-
thing that needs to end now.
