Some years ago I was an aquaintance of Patrick Moore - surely you don't accuse HIM of being a part of some great conspiracy?
You'll also find that the Russians extensively photographed the far side of the moon long before the Apollo landings.
The first photograph was taken by Luna 3 in October 1959.
