Hear is an article on a brief history of nudism. It talks about how it got started and stopped in history and how there has been a revival of it in the last century or so. It also talks about some of the myths associated with it. It is not a long article but it is kind of interesting for those who want to take a few minuets to read it.

Let us take the hypothesis that a human being originated from apes. And those apes had no coats and hats, did they not? There is a joke saying that Adam and Eve were the first nudists in the world. They after all realized that nudity was sinful and later put on some clothes. But before that happened they still walked about naked for some time.

If we study antique arts we will see that the Hellinistic epoch when physically and intellectually perfect humans were not prohibited to stay naked was the Golden Age for naturists. Olympic Games athletes were always naked at that period. Sculptures of gods, philosophers, heroes, ordinary women and men made that epoch are basically naked.

In the Middle Ages, nudity was prohibited. At that, advocates of naturism formed sects such as Adamites who appeared in public and even in church without clothes. And those were just few instances. The cult of naked bodies revived in the late 19th – early 20th centuries when two important books, Heinrich Pudor’s “The Cult of Nudity” and Heinrich Ingewitter’s “Nudity”, came out in Germany.

There's a funny thing about nudity.
I can post an image of a sculpture by one of the great masters.

I think I would be fairly safe in posting any images of non-pornographic art, as long as it's not contemporary.....
Drawing a naked lady and posting it as an avatar will get you warned by a Mod.:shk:

I spend a good portion of my day naked, and I've burned my buns on the nude beach more than once, but I've always seen this double standard in western culture.
Nudity is fine on some beaches or in the home with your family, but the law will get you if the wrong person gets an unintentional look. It seems kinda silly...

The law in Canada was change a few years back and women are now allowed to walk down the street without a shirt, but you don't see breasts everyday when you walk down the street. The most I've noticed is a couple neighbours sunbathing without a top, and the girl in #4 seems to have given up shirts on any warm day.

But even with a few more boobs on display around the building, nobody cares, not even the kids.

Nudity has nothing to do with sex other than having to be naked, and I think people raised around nudity are a lot more open and accepting of their fellow man.
Lord knows you can't hide much when your in the buff.

Anxiety,
David is a good example of now things did change through history. I did not know the law had changed in Canada, but I was aware that the U.S. is about the most prudish when it comes to body issues. Around the house I am most comfortable with little on but that of course is dependent on the weather.
Thanks for your comments.

The only problem I see with nudism, for the most part, is that people that nobody wants to see nude are nudists. Dude's are old and hanging down to here. Women are old and hanging down to there. Nobody wants to see that!

Peace

The Nudity movement is good.

Except for people like me. You don't want to see me naked even if I just gave you $50

Dr. Love,
Well I can't disagree that there are plenty of people that many would not want to see nude. However there is one point that you are missing. When a bunch of people together are all naked, it does not really matter what they look like. It does not matter if they look good or not. Everyone is kina the same when everyone is not wearing anything.

How can someone be a nudist in the winter?

It would be far too cold! yay for clothes.

Is there a such thing as an Anti-Nudist? I seem to be more comfortable in MORE clothes rather than less. I often wear a jacket in my house at night.

Clothes are like armour for your vulnerable skin.

Participants strip off for nude Olympics

Sunscreen will be a hot commodity at Maslin Beach, south of Adelaide, today with about 1,000 people expected for the annual Nude Olympics.

While clothing will not be worn participants have been told they can leave their hat on.

Sounds like a good day to be in Australia.

I'm all for nudism, if you want to let it all hang out, than go ahead.

That said, I myself would not be doing so, I don't like being naked.

But anyways, I don't think that, say we made nudity everywhere
legal, that alot of people would be nude everywhere.

I mean there is a reason we developed clothes.

I always pictured you as a free bird.
I've always thought of you as the kinda guy that would let it all hang out.

Nudity = Equality

And RedGolem,
Posting pics of the Olympic events would have got me banned, you'll have to use your imagination or search for the pictures on Google for yourself, you cheeky guy.

Yes I think this statement is true. Overall it might be kept to the closed communities, beaches and swimming areas even if it were legal everywhere.

I am for the most part, I just don't like being nekkid, for one it's
far to cold, and for two, well the only person who gets the privilege
of seeing me naked is my lover.

Most of the animals I see around my village are nudists. Some little dogs wear sweaters but all the other animals are completely shameless.

I for one think it's disgusting. All animals should at least wear underpants so we don't see their naughty bits.

Nudity on people doesn't bother me cause I'm a people; but animals...

Who's with me.....

I'm thinkin a nice chain of bouteques for our four legged brothers and sisters.

i think its pretty dumb in America that you can't walk around naked. i love being naked, makes me feel like a free man.

just because some people don't want to see nudists doesn't mean we have to ban nudism. that would be like saying that we don't like seeing people wearing blue so they can't wear blue.

its pretty damn stupid. All of my friends think its like a Polish thing to be naked cuz i'm always unclothing myself whenever i feel like it, i'd get naked and run down the street right into a snow pile for $5, and thats only because i have to run into the snow.

i'm starting a nudist colony, anyone in? and we can bring animals, as long as u shave their fur so they look more like us

LOL, alright but seriously.....why are people offended by the naked human body? the Bible clearly states that we came from nothing, and we shall leave with nothing-that means clothes too

i think the more that people are exposed to nudity, the more comfortable they will be about it

The U.S. is about the most prudish when in comes to body issues. I don't know why its just the way it is.
I know if all laws regarding clothing were removed that not everyone would walk around everywhere nude. But what has not been said is that if everyone was walking around nude everyone does tend to look the same. Heads wont turn so much to a pretty ankle that walks by.

...I actually dislike nudity.

I hate not wearing clothes...

And I don't like seeing naked people...
