Scientists 'reverse' vCJD signs (Mad Cow)

Lets all remember this ten years from now, when people is sick with this. That today they said it can be reversed.

Symptoms of prion diseases, such as the human form of mad cow disease vCJD, can be reversed, a study of mice suggests. Medical Research Council experts found memory and behaviour problems could be tackled by stopping production of the proteins corrupted in such diseases.

a nice find, for sure, the question is whether a similar gene silencing enzyme can be found for other species, or if the effect could be replicated by other means (actively neutralising expressed proteins?).


would be nice if this was a permanent cure, though, they weren't too specific about long term effects, so if these prions remained supressed, you'd have effectively invented another AIDS; an ilness which eventually kills, but only a few years and 200k later.
