"The very word 'secrecy' is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths, and to secret proceedings".

President John F. Kennedy
Address to newspaper publishers,
April 27, 1961.

Why do so many use this quote like it has some special meaning. JFK had more secrets during his administration than any President since Roosevelt.
He was conducting covert ops in Latin America, Cuba, SE Asia and domesticly as well as having secret love affairs with every thing in a skirt from hookers to Marilyn Monroe.

Talk about a secret society...the Kennedy Family fits the bill...or did before they were murdered/ Chappaquidick

That's probably true. And the anti-Masons are certainly grasping at straws when they quote this little snippet. Kennedy was not talking about Masons or other fraternal societies. In fact, when Henry Clausen hosted an international meeting of Supreme Councils of the Scottish Rite in Washington D.C., JFK invited them all to White House, and took the time to meet with the Brethren, and give his thumbs up for all the charity work done by Masonry.

I agree, remember this quote was made at a chaotic time in the nation when their was a lot of real secret nastiness in the government: I am sure that is what JFK meant

Wow, I didn't realize that the Masons were here to save the world.

BTW, would you please refrain from circumventing the censors?

This speech was right after the Bay of Pigs, What he was doing was asking the press not to spill the beans like they did about the invasion.. But he made sure to state that by asking them to keep some things secret he was in no way implying that the government wanted to censor the news like that secret society (U.S.S.R) was doing.

He got a pretty good reception on this speech, however a similar one he made a few weeks later to another press group was not received very well at all.
