11 Iraqis Held in Mexico With Fake Passports

According to a breaking news report, 11 Iraqis are being held in Mexico with fake passports, and were apparently headed to California...

MONTERREY, Mexico Jan 22, 2007 (AP)— Eleven Iraqis carrying false passports and heading to California were arrested at Monterrey's airport, immigration officials said Monday.

Nine men, a woman and a two-year-old girl traveled from Madrid, Spain, to Monterrey, where they were detained Saturday, an immigration official said on condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to speak publicly about the arrests.

None of the Iraqi citizens appear on terrorist watch lists and they told authorities they were Chaldean Christians trying to get to California were they would request asylum, the official said.

Using fake passports to get into California where they planned to request asylum?

Curious.

Well perhaps that is what they wanted to ask for asylum.

But how they got out of Iraq? did they were exiles in another country? or they escape Iraq violence and manage to go that far.

Well it says Spain, so they went to Europe from the Middle East first. And went by ship most likely to get to Mexico. Easy enough.

Ah, but why go through all that to go to Mexico, where you plan to sneak into the USA using fake passports.

Something ain't right here.

9 men traveling with one woman, and a child?

Heck, why didn't they just travel to the USA in the first place?

Then again, maybe it is the truth, and all is as is being claimed by the Iraqis... Still seems odd, but perhaps believable.

Would it be better if you say no I am a foreigner that has no passport? Business or pleasure?

This is just the first trickle of the first wave of Iraqi refugees that will soon be flooding the US just as it happened after Nam.

Shall we welcome them or.........

You know Whaaa I also think that it can be related to the wave of refugees.

They know that through Mexico is easier to enter the US.

We can not blame them, Iraq is a dangerous place for Iraqis with young children, I agree this may be just the beginning.
