Can sound travel faster than light?? So say a group of scientists from the MTS Univ. Seems incredible, what?

For the first time, scientists have experimentally demonstrated that sound pulses can travel at velocities faster than the speed of light. C. William Robertson’s team from Middle Tennessee State University also showed that the group velocity of sound waves can become infinite, and even negative.

However, it’s not the actual sound waves that exceed c, but the waves’ “group velocity.”

But whatever it is, something is going faster than light!! So all we've got to do is perfect the art of manipulation in order to travel at superluminal velocities, maybe within the next 100 years!

Cheers!

That is really intresting. Negative sound waves?

another thread here on this forum done some 10 days before you started this one MikeSing

Sound travelling faster than C on ATS

some good points there too

Phase velocity can travel faster than c, not the group velocity. This is nothing new or special - it does not violate special relativity. I suggest you do research on both kinds of velocity as it makes perfect sense why this is so (if you understand the mathematics).

There is already a thread on this.

Go Here.

Sound Pulses Exceed The Speed of Light

All the best,

NeoN HaZe.

Damn.. Noticed MischeviousElf had posted the original Thread earlier..

Talk about a duplicate within a duplicate...

Anyway...

What would a negative velocity be?? Going back? How could you HAVE a negative velocity? Movement is movement..

Oops! Now before I started this thread I went to Google search, (on the top the page), but returned a nix! And I thought, 'How come no one's posted this before'? And so I went to work as it looked pretty interesting!

Alas! This had already been posted earlier, as pointed out.

Thanx guys, I owe each one o' you a beer!! Mods please shove this down the coal chute where it deserves to be.

Now back to my beer! Cheers!
