Dr. Dino locked up for 10 years

Well we have established that Mr. Hovind didnt 'lie' about the Swiss citizens having guns, although he may have embelished the truth, if in fact he did say 1000 rounds.

I went to that anti-Hovind site, Kent-Hovind.com, to see where madness was getting his information.
They say that Switzerland doesnt have an army because it is neutral.
They showed their ignorance right there, along with madnessinhissoul, for not even checking facts, just posting non-sense and claiming it is fact.

The anti-Hovind site also had a quote from Mr. Hovind where he says
"Blaming guns for Columbine is like blaming
spoons for Rosie (O'Donell) being fat."
BUT they quote him as saying skones instead of spoons.
what are skones?
That site is a joke.

As far as Mr. Hovind being a liar and a fraud...
He may have said some things that werent accurated, but who hasnt?
You have never made a mistake? You have never believed something that you later found out to be not accurate?
Like I said earlier, I dont believe everything Kent says, but for the most part he is right on the money.
And I have watched a few of his debates, and he sure seems to win to me.

can you give me some sort of citation on where he's right?
or maybe the criteria you use to judge that he wins debates?

the man is a joke
he sets up an impossible to win $200k prize for proof of evolution
scientists send in evidence of speciation, he says it doesn't count
he sets up the contest in such a way that NOBODY can win the money

I think we all do that, we are ignorant of some things...unless we are omniscient.

However, there is a difference between plain old lack of knowledge ignorance and willful ignorance/plain old lying.

Hovind has been corrected numerous times on certain things he says, he still repeats them again and again and again.

Plus, he ain't no Doctor. His 'PhD' thesis has been seen by others and it is a joke, a comic book PhD, not serious scholarship. Not surprising since it's from a degree mill. It's even full of typos and sellotaped insertions etc.



As you implicitly point out, debating is more a sport than a way to determine truth. He works by using archetypal 'truthiness' that plays to others lack of knowledge and pre-existing biases. He has a well-worked debating style at 1000BPM.

It is no wonder he doesn't get involved in online debates, he would be eviscerated.

Because then that'd be a lie. Thats what hovind does, he lies, to make money, and as this case showed, he made millions.


What does he say that you think is accurate or convincing?

What debates would you say he's won? He sometimes can't even accurately state what the topic of the debate is.

I asked the freehovind people who they are. I checked IP and DNS infomration between them, drdino, cseblogs, and others, there doesn't seem to be a match. Its not unreasonable to think that some people not part of hovind's company started the freehovind website.

I checked 'em too, no match.

But i still think its someone from "within" who made this.

Maybe time will tell, if the site grows.

I emailed the person that runs the freehovind site and they are saying that they are completely independant and are not part of hovind's ministry. I think there's no reason to not take this person's word for it.

I'm certainly no fan of this guy, but I really don't see what good it does to give someone prison time for something like this.

I mean, if they can't pay the restitution to the government, that's one thing, but he obviously can. So what's the good of putting him in jail? If the money gets paid back, the debt to society is repaid as far as I'm concerned.

Ya, i think he should get way more time. But he has to pay alot of $$$$

He's going to jail because he had the money, but he refused to pay.

Everyone would try to refuse if they could just pay IF they got caught.

So ofcourse he have to do prison time.

He's no more than you and I, and should be punished the same way that every one else is.

10 years! Im quite shocked,I enjoy listening to his interviews and his theories on my ipod(stoned), I had no idea he was in trouble.

Funny, peple ask for links to Hovind saying things and they post NON HOVIND sites to prove he said it. You can not say someone said or did something and use someone else saying it as your evidence. Dr. Hovind tapes all his debates and seminars. It should be rather easy to prove if he said things.

But there is a reason they don't use his tapes, he doesn't say the things they say. You know whats really funny, if this guy was so wrong he shouldn't bother them or anyone, but there are over a 1000 ANTI Hovind sites. Ask yourself why he has so much opposition, and they only attack HIM personally they rarely attack his EVIDENCE and SCIENCE. You know when youv'e lost the debate? When you resort to personal attacks..

Its not as easy to reference to a video tape as it is to a transcript of the tape.

Because, even though he's terrible wrong, many naive people, like yourself, fall for his lies.

He has a huge amount of opposition because people like my self, hate seeing people fool others just for profit.

Where is he beeing attacked on a personal level?
You cant attack his evidence and science, because he never mentions evidence nor science. He does lie alot though, and he makes these lies seem like evidence and science. Thats whats beeing attacked.

I'm sorry, CS, but there must be academic standards, there are many theistic type colleges/universities who give proper degrees, but Hovind got his from a degree mill.

Universties have proper assessment of theses, using a rigourous examination procedure to gain the doctorate - the highest qualification available.

Expecting trash theses and academic charlatans to be equivalent to a true doctorate cheapens the standard, and makes fun of the hard work required to gain one.
