Russian Forces on 'High Alert'

According to the following breaking news report, Russian officials have ordered security forces on high alert, following "information" received from "foreign officials"...

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian authorities have ordered security forces on high alert after receiving information from foreign officials pointing to the threat of a terrorist attack on public transportation, officials said Tuesday.
Authorities were checking information about the potential threat, they said.

A federal anti-terrorism headquarters received information "from foreign partners ... about the possibility a subversive terrorist act could be committed on ground transport and in the metro," according to a statement confirmed by a Federal Security Service official who said he was not authorized to give his name.

Federal Security Service chief Nikolai Patrushev, who also heads the anti-terror center, ordered anti-terror forces on high alert and called for stepped-up measures to prevent any attack, the statement said. It offered no details on the nature of the threat or the measures to be taken.

There are very few specifics given in regard to the threat, and /or where or why the information was received.

Interesting indeed. Hope its just a false alarm, or if it isn't they catch 'em. I haven't heard anything further.

Why would terrorists want to attack Russia? Won't Russia be a sleeping giant that terrorists would rather have at rest still? Sorry, I don't know much about Russia's ties to other countrys but, if there is a terrorist attack it looks like they are bitting more then they can chew.

Must have something to do with Chechnya. But then terrorists have attacked Russia many times before.

Just google search Chechnya and you can look at the history of Chechnya along with Russia and why theres a conflict over there.

That was my first thought, however, if the threat was from Chechnya why would the information on these potential threats have come from foreign officials?
