Mr Ebel, a former Energy and CIA oil analyst, now a fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, told Newsnight he flew to the London meeting at the request of the State Department.

Mr Aljibury, once Ronald Reagan's "back-channel" to Saddam, claims that plans to sell off Iraq's oil, pushed by the US-installed Governing Council in 2003, helped instigate the insurgency and attacks on US and British occupying forces.

"Insurgents used this, saying, 'Look, you're losing your country, you're losing your resources to a bunch of wealthy billionaires who want to take you over and make your life miserable,'" said Mr Aljibury from his home near San Francisco.

"We saw an increase in the bombing of oil facilities, pipelines, built on the premise that privatisation is coming

Hmm I think that US oil company's would have taken a different stance if they were sure that they were going to get a slice of the pie. The article also highlights how the Bush admin was hell bent on invading Iraq before 9-11. 9-11 just provide a means to strike up support for the war by playing on people emotions that came from that terrible day.

The Iraqi government in power is divided within their own shiite members.

The ones that are to become the emerging elite that will support capitalism and the singing of the oil rights to the American oil barons while keeping the miserable 25% percent of profits, and the ones that are against the sell of Iraqis only resources plus the militias involved agianst US forces.

Iraqis are not stupid they know what is going on in their nation and between US and the struggling government.

When you have lobbyist in Iraq waving US bills to get the government to sign the oil you can pretty much know how politics are playing in that nation.

The people are struggling for survival while their government is trying to sell them out.

good one marge. this is some of the problems that face iraq. usa is running dry of oil, we have no large oil elephants. our small wells are running dry and to take the slak, the saudis sell off oil. saudi is the huge elepant oil producer over there and iran is too unfortunately. the huge oil pocket is connected underground and iran is sucking out of it too along with iraq. look at a topical map of where the oil finds are and where the oil runs , put a world map over it and you will see where it goes. take another look on the web of usa imports of oil over the exports you will notice a very large difference. we are importing more than exporting of oil. our nation is running dry so we rely on our other oil partners to take up the slak, like saudi, as example , because they are the biggest. the big oil heads are going over there this february to make a deal. all our ships are over there to watch iran, so they do not get involved with the deal. iran will have no part of this considering that their oil is connected to theirs. this nuke thing only makes matters worse. iran also is making sure that they unite with the countries that supply us , or ( help us out with oil) cut us off so we starve of oil. our small oil pockets is not enough to supply us so we need other countries to help take the slak, like saudi. i think our big oil pigs can fight there own money, power greed war, the unfortunate thing about it is that we need this oil or we will all starve litterally. no supplies of any kind will make our economy run into a depression. we should consentrate on the new technology to ship our supplies so we do not have to rely on oil. the bad thing is, is that we do not have enough of these kinds of vehicles mass produced that do not rely on gas to run them. think of all the things that run on gas, make a list. see, what i mean. no gas means a depression for the usa or a revolution. the usa does not want this to happen , that is why we have the whole battlegroup over there if iran gets in the way. this is sad, but is a fact. supply and demand. we demand oil or we go into a depression. come on america, lets go high tech on vehicles that take no gas and start mass producing them for us.
